JB JBjr

i'm wondering if i'll like a JBjr since i like the full size JB... the JR would be going in a bright vintage reissue strat... according to the tone chart the I'l Screaming Demon has more bass resonse then the JBjr, but less mids...

even the Flury pickups have my eye but they seem super hot!

Re: JB JBjr

The JB Jnr does not sound exactly like a regular SH-4 but it certainly beats hacking a cavity extension in yo' vintage replica Stratocaster.

My own taste would be for a darker-sounding single coil bridge pickup. I would also rejig the tone controls so that the bridge pickup is in circuit. The Ant 1 Hot treble pickup is nice. I like the Twangbanger. The SSL-5 is the Gilmour route.

I cannot comment on the YJM Fury models as I have still have not gotten around to trying them in a guitar.

Re: JB JBjr

The closest to a full sized JB in a mini is the Dimarzio Fastrack II. The JB Jr is a good neck pickup but is too bright and weak for a bridge pickup.

Re: JB JBjr

thanks guys... right now this 66 Time Machine strat has the SSL-5 and tone controlls modded to work on the bridge PU... as well as a 5-way... the stock Fender Abigal wounds are in the neck/middle... with the stock Abigal in the bridge position the 2nd position on the knife switch is seriously sweet! But the stock bridge is way too bright and weak for my tastes on it's own... the SSL-5 is much better with some higher gain settings...

i was thinking of trying some sort of warmer lower noise style strat sized pick ups in this thing and use the Abigal's/SSL-5 pickguard set in a warmer sounding strat! the heart of the matter is this 66 CS strat's wood is not the warmest pieces of wood... i may unload it oneday but for now i'm still playing with it... i like it, but don't at the same time... the new Fender American Vintage Reissues strats i've tried put this CS strat to shame...

Re: JB JBjr

I had a couple of JBs, in Hamers, a mate had a JBjr in a Charvel Strat copy. Very different guitars, yes, but there was a brightness to the jr that wasn't just the wood. Still, a decent bridge pup for the harder side of classic rock. That said, I think there are better pups to be found than the jr.

Re: JB JBjr

Demon seems to have more throaty low-mids, while JB seems to have more upper mids. Both rock, but which sound do YOU prefer: lion roar, or coyote howl?
