JB = Jeff Beck?

Re: JB = Jeff Beck?

its actually the John Bonham model unfortunately he never got the chance to start playing guitar so he could use it live.

You know i love ya bro, but now you're just being silly.

The real mystery is whether the JB stands for Jonas Brothers or Justin Bieber. Neither Seymour, the Jonas Brothers (or their sister, Doctor Joyce Brothers) or Justin Bieber have ever spoken a word about it. It is one of the deep mysteries that this forum has never been able to unravel.

Re: JB = Jeff Beck?

This has been gone over so many times and so thoroughly that I'm not even going to comment.

Oh,....I guess I just did!

Re: JB = Jeff Beck?

I never knew that JB stood for Jazz/Blues I would of never thought not with the way it was used in the 80's. Was their a reason Jeff Beck stopped using this pup and doesn't use it now a days?

Re: JB = Jeff Beck?

Hold on, everyone knows the JBJ is really the Jon Bon Jovi model.

Re: JB = Jeff Beck?

The Seymour Duncan company cannot confirm the "JB" as being named after/for Jeff Beck or anyone whose initials are "JB" because it opens up an expensive matter of branding. Celebrity names are a marketable commodity, and unless you negotiate a contract with said celebrity, you cannot name your product after them, unless you enjoy standing before a judge as the celebrity sues your ass off.

If Jeff Beck comes out and says "Yeah, the Duncan JB is all about me" that's one thing. If SD says "Yeah, the Duncan JB is all about Jeff Beck.", then Mr Duncan will find himself sued by Mr Beck's attorneys, estate holders, and other money-grubbing spokespersons. Jeff Beck would be advertising and verbally endorsing Seymour Duncan pickups with his statement. Seymour would be advertising his brand of pickups "as used by Jeff Beck, world-famous and well-loved guitar hero to millions" with his statement.

Ergo, the official answer is "Duncan JB pickup = Jazz/Blues", regardless of speculation otherwise. Being that this is the OFFICIAL SD Company Website Forum, it would be in SD's best interest if we, the people, did not claim it means "Jeff Beck", regardless of prior statements made by Mr Duncan or his associates. If SD wants the JB to be represented officially to the public as the "Jeff Beck", they will update their official product info to that effect.

Re: JB = Jeff Beck?

This may be common knowledge to some, but does the "JB" in the JB Humbucker stand for Jeff Beck? I know that Seymour had wound some pickups for Jeff when he was starting out but I wasn't sure if the JB was at all related to that or not.

Technically no, JB does not stand for Jeff Beck. Beck didn;t sign on or agree to any sort of endorsement per SD. The JB and Jazz are the result of the pickups SD did for the TeleGib SD made for Beck though.

The man himself tells the story here

Re: JB = Jeff Beck?

Maybe they should rename it the BJ model? However, it doesn't sound particularly bluesy much less jazzy.

I just read the interview with Seymor Duncan. He did make the JB for Jeff Beck. But he also said he like the blues. But I say odds are on the pick up being called the Jeff Beck, like J.B. Duh!

Re: JB = Jeff Beck?

JB does actually mean Jeff Beck, but Duncan can't legally call it that, so the Jazz/Blues is its "official" (i.e. B.S.) name.

...and just the same, Jazz Model is the "official" B.S. name for the John Milner, or JM, as the pickup used to be known.
