JB jr or Hotrails?

Hey, I want a new bridge pickup for my strat and am thinking about either the JB jr or the hot rails. I play alot of metal, but also funk, rock and on occasion blues. What are the pros and cons of each?
Cheers

Re: JB jr or Hotrails?

JB jr does sound like a JB. I have a neck/mid in the middle with a JB trembucker at the bridge and they are quite similar although the jr has less output.

Hotrails is hot, middy, tight, and has a slight rolloff in the top end. I have done spinasplit on it, and the single coil sound is similar but less output. I have not tried it in parallel, which might be OK for the blues and funk.

If you were only doing metal, hotrails would probably be more output and better palm mutes, but JB jr will do better meedley-meedley-meedley leads above the 12th fret on the high E string. JB jr will do better with the blues and funk.

Edit: PS welcome to the forum.

Re: JB jr or Hotrails?

in the bridge, ive found that the hot rails is not really all that muddy. ive never tried it in the neck, but as long as you dont saturate it with bass and distortion, you may like it. ive never tried the jb jr, but the hot rails does some funk type stuff well, depending on the amp and settings you use. and what type of funk tone you are going for.

Re: JB jr or Hotrails?

Thanks for the replies. I take it the JB is more versatile? I like Chills description of the Hotrails though, this guitar is very bright, though I guess any humbucker is going to darker than a single coil.

Re: JB jr or Hotrails?

what about the cool rails? ive never used them but most ppl say they are not cool at all, just less hot than the hot rails. they might be good to try.

Re: JB jr or Hotrails?

I would go with the JB jr.

It's hot, yet balanced.

I like to use mine for a "boost" on guitar solos.
