JB mods

Re: JB mods

Not weird at all; that's what an A3 and short hexes can do for you in the neck position.

Sure, but nobody was talking about it when I did it years back, especially with a hot bridge humbucker.

It wound up more like you'd expect from a DiMarzio hot neck Air humbucker.

I'm very tempted to try the RC/UO/RCUO A5 gamut in my PATB-1b. And A8. [I could see a strat/tele lover liking a bridge PATB with A3, too. Now I'm weirdly tempted...]

And back on thread topic:
Again, don't be afraid to experiment. What other people like in their guitar with their rig may not be what you like in your guitar or rig.

Re: JB mods

You're making all these "calculations" and decisions in your mind and you don't even have your amp yet!!

In other words...you're making all these mods and you haven't even played it or even heard what it sounds like yet?

That's like looking at the menu of a restaurant you've never been to and deciding what to order and if you should add a pinch of salt to it, or a couple pinches of pepper, etc. Man, taste it first before you decide how to spice it up!!

Re: JB mods

I ordered an A8, UOA5, and the allen screws from AddictionFX; should be here Friday. I can't wait to play with this! First though, how do I remove the regular slugs? Also, do you guys think I should start with the A8 or the UOA5?

Re: JB mods

The stuff got here today, the magnets are good, but the hex screws are too wide for the holes. Before I commit to filing these down, can anyone point me in the direction of ones that fit?

Re: JB mods

Are you trying to put the hexes in the slug coil or the screw coil? They should swap with the screws fairly easily, don't know about the slugs.

I was trying to put them in the slug coil like a screaming demon, but I'll just put it in the screw coil since it's easier.

Re: JB mods

I have the alnico 8 and the pickup is half hexed, I'll plug it in tomorrow and tell everyone how it sounds

Re: JB mods

I just read this whole post and I like your idea, it's coming together nice so far. Also a shout out to your Gotoh, I love those versions, and I miss my old one very much.

Re: JB mods

I've been playing it for about two hours now; sounds awesome. The low strings are crunchy, and there's way better harmonic response than it did with the ceramic.
