JB mods?

I love the rich harmonics of the JB. I do find the midrange a little too dominant....the bass and treble controls on my amp barely alter my sound at all. Id like to tone down the output a bit and try to get a bit of a 'rounder' sound.

Its in a thin semi hollow godin flat 5.

Im going to throw in the 250k pots in the guitar soon. Ive met a tech who winds pups and adds things like wooden bobbins and polepieces.

If anyone has any suggestions for mods to keep the JB bite but smooth it out a little bit and give me back some more character of the guitar, id appreciate it.

I recently swapped frist a A8 and than a ceramic magnet into my JB. Both magnets are boosting highs and lows, so that the mid spike isnt that dominant. With ceramic the high became a little bit stiff sounding (goes into the DD territory) but the A8 brought the harmonics out even more.

250 or/and you screw the pup more into the guitar -> more space between strings and pup!

sweet, hadnt thought of either option. The magnet is a new idea, the pickup height i should have thought of. :smack:

Dont have to switch out the pots. Two 1 meg resistors, in parallel, between the input lug and ground will knock a 500k down to 250.

WAY easier, costs pennies, and you get the same results. All nickel strings and graphtech saddles will help smooth things out a bit. Going down to A3 or A2 will also, but the change'll be more pronounced.
