JB on a strat HSS : volume pot 250k or 500k

Hi

I have just upgraded my american std stratocaster to a HSS configuration with one JB Hum on bridge and 2 classic stack plus STK-S4.

I use the wiring diagram :
http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=1h_2s_1v_2t_5w

I use the configuration 250k for the volume pot AND the tone pots, as discribed on the wiring diagram. The 2 tone pots don't affect the JB on the bridge but only the 2 STK-S4 on middle and neck position.

I'm not really satisfy by the tone the JB produce with the 250k pot volume, comparing with other guitar I have, it seems to lose some high frequency.

The questions is :

if I put a 500k volume pot, does it solve my problem with the JB ?

How does it affect the STK-S4 on middle and neck ?

Should I keep the tone pot at 250k ?

What is the best configuration ? I'm certainly not the first one to put a JB with 2 single coil on a strat

thanks

Re: JB on a strat HSS : volume pot 250k or 500k

I have many JB equipped strats using a 500k volume and 250k tones. Some will say the JB was designed around the 250k, or Seymour prefers the 250k with a JB, but I prefer it with a 500K....and its my guitar!

Anyway.....the 500k volume pot will make the neck and middle singles brighter....if it's too bright for your taste start using those tone controls!!!

Just my opinion/experience of course..........

Thanks for the answer

I'm gonna try a 500k volume pot, and keep the tone pot at 250k

How does the tone pot value affect the "tone" of the guitar comparing to the volume pot ? for example if I change all the pots for 500k, both volume and tone

Re: JB on a strat HSS : volume pot 250k or 500k

I've never bothered to swap the stock tone pots, and they're unhooked in my Les Pauls! However, I've always heard changing the tone pots value has less effect than changing a volume pots value.........

Re: JB on a strat HSS : volume pot 250k or 500k

Another option would be to use 2 volumes and a master tone. You could use a 250k vol for the single coils, and a 500k vol for the humbucker.

You'll need a Super Switch if you want to do this. Position #5 (bridge humbucker) will use the 500k vol, while all other positions will use the 250k.

1 - neck p/u
2 - neck p/u
3 - mid p/u
4 - bridge p/u
5 -
0 - 250k volume pot

1 -
2 - mid p/u
3 -
4 - mid p/u
5 -
0 - 250k volume pot

1 -
2 -
3 -
4 -
5 - bridge p/u
0 - 500k volume pot

1 - from 250k pot
2 - from 250k pot
3 - from 250k pot
4 - from 250k pot
5 - from 500k pot
0 - to master tone and output jack

Hi
Thank you !!! I really appreciate

I will start first to change the volume pot for a 500k. If the single coil pickups come to bright I will ask you for the wiring diagram and try to get the upgrade hardware

thanks again

I will post my result test
