JB replacement

Hey how you guys doing. Its been a long time since I posted here. hmm I Looking for a pickup that has medium output or lower output. I like the tone of the JB but it has too much output for me. at the moment. So wanted something with lower output. I have a Jazz in the neck. I would like to stick to Duncans.

Re: JB replacement

Perhaps if you could 'air' the JB, you can decrease the output keeping the same tone characteristic.

'59/Custom hybrid for a small but effective output reduction

Screamin' Demon for a little less than the '59/Custom hybrid

I'd stay away from the lowest output models, the difference might be too drastic between them and the JB. The Screamin' Demon and '59/Custom hybrid will give you less compression, a more "open" sound and a bit sweeter tone.

Re: JB replacement

What guitar is it for?

Me, I like my Seth Lovers, so I would suggest one of those.

Re: JB replacement

It might still be hotter than you want it to be but trying an A2 magnet in that JB might help a bit. Cheaper than a new pickup.

Re: JB replacement

for a medium output i would go with a demon or C/59 hybrid. they're both right in the middle of the output range. i love the demon, and i've heard nothing but good things about the hybrid.

Re: JB replacement

Try lowering the height.
I found that by lowering mine to about 1/8" on both made a big difference.
Until I owned a JB I'd never played with height but now I've gone through all my guitars and they've all opened up in amazing ways.
Wish I'd tried it years ago... would've saved a fortune on pickups.

Re: JB replacement

The jazz and JB "fit" together very well. They balance each other nicely when switching from neck to bridge, and sound great in the middle position as well. I would try adjusting height and all like the others suggested and find peace of mind knowing that you have a guitar with with one of the best pickup combinations ever.

Re: JB replacement

Thanks Wolfie And Hacker. I have to agree that the JB and Jazz "fit together very well. And The Jazz is a breeze pup. Will try lowering the heights first.

If that doesn't work, change the magnet to an A3.

That will keep mostly of the JB's character with a little bit smoother highs but definately less output, matching and complementing the Jazz neck p'up tone .

HTH,
