So...

So...

Anybody could post a conclusion about this? Like, in what cases you should use which pickup? Would be a lot of help. Still can't really make up my mind between those pickups.

Re: Jb Versus Custom

My conclusion, based on real world swapping and listening, was to split the difference between the Custom, CC, and JB.......Custom 5. I spent several years with those 3 pickups in guitars ranging from strats, San Dimas Charvels, PRS, and Les Pauls.
I can only tell you the conclusion I came to. C-5 has the tightest bass response, neutral mids to let the wood and amp shine through, and nice present highs that aren't too shrill in a quality guitar. To satisfy my recent curiosity of CC vs. C-5, I spent a few weeks with those in my two main Pauls. It was close, and the CC sounds great, but the C-5 sounds more 'open' and has tighter lows, so it wins by a narrow margin.

As far as Custom vs. JB, it depends on the guitar and music style. Buy both. Return one.

Re: Jb Versus Custom

im sensing a pattern here: JB, Custom, JB, Custom, JB, Custom, JB, Custom, JB, Custom, JB, Custom.... hahahaha, its enough to make you weep!

GJ has a good point... buy both, return one... we all go home happy!

Re: Jb Versus Custom

I love my JB, sooo versatile (at least through my pod)

I have a Custom too, but I haven't got around to chiseling out the guitar to put it in, so I can't comment on that yet.

Re: Jb Versus Custom

Don't make me choose! The Custom is fat, loud, and aggressive, and the JB is singing, sweet, and clear, yet still aggressive. I need one of each!

Re: Jb Versus Custom

How bout the best of both worlds?

I want to keep the JB becuase it splits so well for strat sounds in position 2 and the bass is tight and clean as a humb-

I wanted a custom for full hum that's a littel less bright and considered a custom SD with one of each coils-

But so happens I will be in the UK next week and found out that Swinehead intends to to produce exactly this pup this summer- Assuming they do, maybe I should try out a blue one and report back:)

Re: Jb Versus Custom

I voted neither because the distortion model is a JB with a large ceramic magnet
and to me combines the best of both those two(custom/JB)
at first i did not care for the DD but after some tweaking(lowering it from the strings, raising the poles, etc) the DD just has the power/tone i wanted
I have a JB and a custom as well but am using the DD now
it really is NOT a distortion pup at all, it is much more like a clean, tight pup with a lot OF balls

word. i heard that the name fools you. it can be pretty diverse.

and, yeah, the distortions got somethin swingin between its legs. :headbang:

Re: Jb Versus Custom

the JB then.Custom 5 sounds too shrill even thow i never played one,i hated the sound samples from duncan.no mids and unclear.
long live the JB

Re: Jb Versus Custom

I would prefer either a Custom 3 or Custom 4 to both, but since the Custom has a little more beef, I went with it.
