JB vs. 500T vs. Super D

Re: JB vs. 500T vs. Super D

The 500T is a great pickup. You have to put it in a good guitar and play it like you mean it, though.

I have one in my flying V. since i cant get the ****ing thing to work without humming I might just rip it out and try it on another guitar.

any ideas how this would sound in alder?

fine for doing one swap at a time, but i wanted to swap 5 pickups in & out of there in one evening, making clips of each to compare them all.

looks like a tele. thats bad.

Re: JB vs. 500T vs. Super D

The 500t was probably my favorite. The Super D would be second. The 81 was just too tight and processed sounding. A little bit of that 18 yr old looseness is necessary for me...

:lmao:

Hehe. I wanted to ask you guys: is there any *specific* reason why the 81 doesn't have as much bass as the others?

Re: JB vs. 500T vs. Super D

500T for the palm muted riffage. JB for the higher single notes.

500T gets lots of good press around here. it was too dark in my gibson with 300k pots, but in the LTD (thinner body) with 500k, it sounds great.

whenever i go these comparisons, the Super D always sounds best to me. its just got such girth to it, yet it still has a nice snap as well (maple neck, maple board on that guitar) that would stand out well in a mix.

anyhow, thanks for the compliments. the JB has been in my explorer for nearly 5 years now, but with the recent additions of the 500T and Super D in my other main guitars, ive been really tempted to pull it for something else. i was gonna try all my spare pickups i have laying around, but then i remembered how damn cramped the explorer control cavity is and lost all desire to do 5 pickup swaps in there in one evening.

Re: JB vs. 500T vs. Super D

What was that about the EMG Model 18 being as loose as an 81-year-old?

Re: JB vs. 500T vs. Super D

The EMG 81 sounded thin sometimes, but overall it may have been better than the 500t. And the Super Distortion didn't sound as inappropriate as it did to me the first time I listened. And, as much as like playing my JB pickup, it still was the worst of the group.
