JB vs Distortion

I was just wondering, which would be better for more :saeek: metal/crunchy :saeek: sounding tones? the JB or the Distortion humbucker?
I want a deep heavy metal sound. I DO have the Boss Metal-Zone pedal so, in addition to that, I want to know what would sound better....

thank you for putting in some ideas and/or thoughts on this matter....

Re: JB vs Distortion

Both will do metal very well, if you want a aggressive tone use the Custom, more harmonics the JB, and something trashier would be the DD. If you want a lower output pup for metal try a Screamin Deamon, but if you want balls to the wall in a passive id go with a Dime or a Invader.

Re: JB vs Distortion

The JB is a little "throaty" or slightly "hollow" sounding compared to the Distortion. Both are very crisp through the right amp. I know this is a large blanket statement but, I've found, pickup tone & response depends more heavily on the amp & a players technique than just the guitar. Just my 2 cents.

Re: JB vs Distortion

Hmmm, thx 2 RacerX and Jackal I can´t add much, they´re more or less spot on. BUUT...

Take a look into the Dimebucker if you don´t want the "looseness" of the JB´s bass response combined with the Custom´s deep fat tone.

If you "liked" the original Pups, but want a more aggressive touch but keeping Versatility: Custom
Wanna go full bore thrash-metal? Distortion
Like to dabble with other, less aggressive styles: JB

That´s about all I can add at my current alcohol level :alcoholic

You keep saying the Custom's deep fat tone and for that reason I gotta find one for my LP! :)

Re: JB vs Distortion

I have both DD and JB. I love'em both. I really like the DD through my 5150...especially when i am tuned down to C. I feel the JB lacks the bottom end that i like, but that can be solved through an EQ. I like the sound of the JB also tuned down....it is very nice and crisp. They both give me everything i need..for all kinds of rock to metal. So either way you go ...u can't make a bad choice
