Well, to my ears, the JB is much brighter than the Hot Rails. I would go more for a vintage output pickup like the Lil 59 or '59. If you are going for a warm sounding bridge pickup, another choice is the Alnico II Pro. BTW, I never hear the Hot Rail described as thin or harsh, unless it is split or wired in parallel. It also may be distorting the input of your amp, which would cause rather unpleasant distortion on some amps.
