JB; white to aged white

Re: JB; white to aged white

Krylon makes spray paint that adhears to plastic called FUSION
Dover white is the one you want

Re: JB; white to aged white

+1 for the Krylon Fusion paints. They dry fast and they have the appearance of original plastic (almost).

Re: JB; white to aged white

Boy...how you gonna keep the paint off of the polepieces, tape, etc.?

I wonder if you could soak it in strong coffee for a couple of days without hurting anything? That's how I age new Fender Grill Cloth to look like 40 year old Fender Grill Cloth.

Soaking a pickup in coffee? Yikes... Coffee is a tad acidic and who knows what havok that would reap on the copper wires. I wouldn't try that even with someone else's pickup.

I also noticed the coffee trick doesn't work on some plastic. The trem tip and 5 way switch tip stayed white even after a week in black coffee. Same with the single coil pickup covers. They looked a little darker till I wiped the wet coffee off them and also wiped off a weeks worth of tinting... doh!

I figure that you could scrape the paint off with a straight pin
the screws can be removed.
Or...
if you are really careful, you could apply some vasoline (or something like it) with a toothpick to the slug poles so that the paint wouldn't stick

Re: JB; white to aged white

You can take all the screws and slugs out of the pickup and mask the black tape with some masking tape if you don't want overspray on the tape, and then have fun painting your pickup with the Fusion Krylon paint.

Re: JB; white to aged white

That's even a better idea

Be sure you clean any greasy film off the bobbin before you paint it though in order to get good adhesion

I´ve just bought a white JB. My pickguard is aged white. Anybody knows what can I do to match the colours?

Ussing the pickup for a while? :laugh2:

But the coil is wrapped around the bobbins...

well they make those replaceable bobbin top things (i see em online all the time) i figured you could do it with any pickup. if not, then putting a whole pickup in any liquid is a terrible idea IMO

Re: JB; white to aged white

get a white scratchplate?

But seriously, maybe a few weeks in the sun, on the dash of your car. Ohh, but then the wax-potting might oooze out and off. Maybe you could use a stain of some sort. Visit the art supply store. It might even be in a pen format
