A JB2 will have less output than a regular JB, right?

What Dimarzio would that be? A Breed.
I had one for a while. Sort of a tame JB. Very thick sounding.

Re: JB with a bit less highs and more bass?

If you already have a JB, try a mag swap or two before you dump it. I don't like stock JB's, but with an A2 it's a whole new PU. Nice, full mids and no shrill high end. An A8 will keep a little more treble than an A2. Many times you can get what you want from your existing PU's by changing magnets or pots.

Re: JB with a bit less highs and more bass?

if anyone needs an A8 magnet, I have one you can have for..... 1 MILLION DOLLARS!! ;)

seriously though I can't bond with the A8 in anything.

Re: JB with a bit less highs and more bass?

Motor City Pickups AFWAYU is exactly that.

JB, less treble, bigger tighter bass, no icepick mid spike.

HUGE sounding pickup.

If you really are looking to get rid of an A8, I'll take it.

I've got one of these with a nickel cover in a pickguard waiting for a test drive, but I have no neck humbucker to pair it with. Wymore didn't have any 4-conductor neck buckers with nickel covers to match it, and a new one off an eBay dealer is like $100 plus shipping. I figure I'll just save up $30 more and get an Afwayu neck model.

Re: JB with a bit less highs and more bass?

putting a nickel cover to a JB would reduce the highs a bit?

Re: JB with a bit less highs and more bass?

I have run a JB with swaps to both the A-2 and A-8. The both will get you close. A-8 is super hot but has a singing smooth mid and a lot of meat. The A-2 also has a singing smooth mid with a more open tone and less heat but not by that much.
The closest Dimarzio is the Air or Tone Zone or Norton.
I would prefer a Alt 8 or JB 2 to either Dimarzio though.

Howdy,

Call DiMarzio and ask for Steve. He helped me with product info on thier vintage styled HBers and it resulted in my ordering a set of thier Air Classics for my ES-335. Good luck.
