JB with A2 magnet for less bass

Re: JB with A2 magnet for less bass

Well, I just did my first magnet swap and the pickup looks just as it looked before I took it apart which is a good thing! Prior to doing the swap, I took a reading of 18.1. Once I swapped the magnet the first time, I was confused on the orientation explanation on a different thread. Once i closed it up, I kind of figured I put the magnet upside down. I took a reading and it only measured at 9.1? I went in again and figured out the orientation thing and it was definitely upside down, reinstalled the magnet the right way, closed it up and it now reads at 18.1. Could an upside down magnet cause it to lose half its strength? I wouldn't think so.

No, the magnet has nothing to do with DC resistance, you must have shorted a lead wire or measured at the wrong leads or something. 18.1 is pretty high for a JB too.

I got the JB2 installed and so far I really like it, seems like there is less bass and a bit more controlled with an added sag that I like with Alnico II. I checked the reading again before I installed it wand it was still at 18.1. Could this higher reading have anything to do with it being a trembucker?

Re: JB with A2 magnet for less bass

JB2 has less bass than the stock JB, it actually feels tighter through my amp, it's a really good pickup, but yeah, for a bright guitar. HUGE mids, very 80's metal sound.

Do you use the JB2 in an all mahogany guitar Izzo?
