JB4 and SH-6 in band mix?

Hey :)

I got an epiphone les paul standard with a jb4 (good guitar and a good pickup), and the other guitarrist in the band uses a jackson js32 kelly, a pretty bright guitar.

He's not really a gear freak like me, so thats why i'm posting on his behalf.

Would a Les Paul with a jb4 mix well live with a Jackson with a Duncan Distortion?

I'm pretty sure the mix will be great as long as we use the same amp and cab, and well set, right?

oh, and the style is Groove / Thrash Metal @ https://www.facebook.com/DreadfireBand

You can both use the same amp and cab, but you won't sound alike, because each person plays differently.

The singer/guitarist in my old band played through my amp with my guitar and had a darker tone than I did, without touching the EQ.

True, so no reason i should say no to the SH-6 Duncan Distortion? Is the Duncan Distortion good for bright guitars? Cuz that jackson needs some low mids. Of course you can obtain more low mids and depth by lowering the pickups i guess.

Dunno if i did the wrong choice, when i could have gotten the invader?

Slash and Izzy both had very different guitar tones, but they sounded great together, right?
Angus and Malcolm, same.

The only guy I've heard saying both guitarists had to use the same gear is Dave Mustaine.

I wouldnt worry about it. Even if you both had the exact same rig, you would both have your own ideas how to EQ it etc.

Re: JB4 and SH-6 in band mix?

I often jam with a friend of mine that uses a JB in his Jackson Kelly. I use a Duncan Distortion in my BC Rich Warlock. Our tones actually blend really well.

BUT, there are a lot of different factors. Different fretboard materials, different bridges, I use effects pedals whereas he doesn't, he uses a Crate tube amp, I use Mesa/Boogie, and we're running five different types of speakers between the two of us.

The different pickups will offer different tonal responses, but those tonal responses are further modified by the guitar itself, the way the player picks, the amps, effects, and settings, and the speaker cabinets.

JB's seems best suited for bright guitars, I personally hated them in the mahogany guitars. I much prefer the distortion for the shorter scale darker les paul/sg type guitars.

That said it depends on whether your playing the leads or rhythm more for which you prefer, JB tend to have great singing leads while the distortion has tight low end crunch for rhythm.
