Now I know Randy used JBLs in his JMP cabs, how come we dont hear about them anymore, do they suck and only Randy could use them? Fanes, I know laney use to use them as their stock and Iommi at one point like them too, lets compare both to Celestions to keep simple and live emminance out for a while/

Re: JBLs and Fanes

Randy used altecs not JBL's...

JBL's and Altecs fir that matter are great speakers but are very loud, clean and heavy...most players don't want any of that...

Fanes are VERY different from ANY Celeation out there...more bottom, cleaner...just a very different speaker...lsiten to David Gilmour he was a big fane user Pete durin the ol HiWatt days of the Who was almost always Fanes...they are still britt voiced speakers but they are cleaner that celestions...not better or worse just different

Re: JBLs and Fanes

Yo Christian, thank as usual man. I've read somewhere that he used a combination of Altecs and JBLs. Any standard Fane classics? you know like Celestions have their greenbacks and V30s. Thanks again ...

I never heard the JBL thing...not that I looked for the info but I have read several times and places that Randy loved old Altecs in his Marshall cabs...

On the Fane front...there is MUCH better info in the next post!

Re: JBLs and Fanes

Actually Fane made dozens of different models. The HIWATT models were different from the SC models that were different from the ones made for LANEY etc. Almost all of them have model numbers printed on the frames.

the main two HIWATT Fanes were model #122231 and #122142. But there were others used by HIWATT as well.

Glynn Reeves, son of the late Dave Reeves met with the former Manager of Fane acoustics and was given a copy of several pages of different speaker models and specs made by Fane. I have a copy of some of the early 1970's pages. Fane made speakers for companies I have never heard of...:eyecrazy:
