JCM 900 Mods

I have GAS again. I was thinking of mods to my 900 DR. Maybee changing the diode for a preamp tube on Channel 2. How would this affect the sound?
Who would be good to get the MOD? I one amp modded by voodoo, nothing wrong with them I just thought other people mod amps good as well. Another question, what would putting a mercury Magnets transformer do to the sound?

If I were you, I'd ditch it for the JCM900 SL-X. That amp comes ready to tear yer face off out of the box.

a mm transformer will improve the sound a lot, marshall uses cheap as hell transformers

but i'd definately ditch that diode

This place seems to have a good price. They can put the transformer in cheaper than voodoo. What I want is a 2 channel slx.

Get an ADA MP-1 and run it through the power section of your JCM900.

Both are very similar. Practically the same amp other than the additional 12AX7 tube in the SL-X. I prefer the MkIII myself. Some prefer the SL-X. It comes down to taste.

As for modding a dual reverb. Meh, not really worth it, IMO. Maybe upgrade the transformers but that's about it.
