jcm800 speakers

Re: jcm800 speakers

Sure it would sound great....but most of the 800s had g12t75s (from memory) in the 4x12 cabs if you want to keep it more or less as the factory intended.

My JCM 800 combo has the factory g12t75's in it

Re: jcm800 speakers

Criss cross of G12T75's and Vin 30 works great for 800's. You've got low/highs mixed with mids.

Re: jcm800 speakers

Texas Heats are cool speakers but they are pretty "American" for an 800...

I'd go Greenbacks, or G12-65's if you like it thick maybe V30's if you want it loud and tight...

Re: jcm800 speakers

Greenback 25s or the 65s are my fave tones

But I also like H30s, 70s, and 75s.

(broken in) V30s are starting to grow on me a bit, but still not my first choice in speakers (they sound better in a plexi than a 800, IMO)

Re: jcm800 speakers

I'd stay away from V30's. The spike and decibels will cut your ears of

Re: jcm800 speakers

hi and thanks for your opinions.
i forgot to say, it's a 2204 schematic, but built into a 1x12 combo.
i never tried american voiced speakers in english amps, only the other way around
which i liked. the lil'texas was first in my mind, due to i want on the one hand
a light combo, on the other a nice amp for a mulitamp setup with my twin.

the v30 is not my thing, i love a good top end, but that one bites too much.
i already thought about Greenbacks or G12-65, or their clones (Pvt Jack and
Tonespotter), all great speakers but i thought about avoiding that weight and go neo.

Re: jcm800 speakers

fwiw, the Gov' is a great V30 speaker without the "bite" that people fear from V30's.

I ran a single TexasHeat with my DSL in a closed back cab, was quite cool. Had alot of full low mids, very thick sounding with that setup. Was a bit to round on the bottom end for me, I wished it was a bit tighter on the lows.

But I tend to like the V30/gov * G12M/PJack type of voicings these days myself.

Re: jcm800 speakers

yep. i owned one, and used it in an engl thunder (instead v30).
to bad, there isn't any lil'gov :)

I checked (due to your G12-65 hint) the eminence tonespotter, which is a em clone
of the G12-65. I think it could to the trick.
I'm gonna tell you how i like it, when it's broken in...

cheers, B

Re: jcm800 speakers

If you were yo only have one speaker I would go for the G12K-100. It sounds like best of both worlds (75s and V30s)

Re: jcm800 speakers

The Tonespotter is a little more open sounding than the Greenback which the G12-65 is supposed to be built in the mold of. The G12-65 is also a little more open sounding than the Greenback. The WGS ET-65 has that little bit of nasal sound of the Greenback.

The Tonespotter and the G12-65 are likely the closest and the ET-65 pulls off the Greenback big brother thing a bit better. All 3 are great speakers, but the Tonespotter and the G12-65 can use a bit more mids in certain situations, depending on the application. Sometimes described as a little "blah".

Of course the G12-65 is pricey but still a good speaker. The ET-65 and Tonespotter are much more affordable.
