Does anybody have or ever played a newer Beck strat, standard or custom shop? I need some opinions. Thanks in advance.

Re: Jeff Beck Strat

I played the 1st version which had a chunkier neck profile. I loved it. Go check one out. I think they've slimmed the neck down some because people complained. Real nice guitar. Has the noiseless pickups with ceramic magnets now, I think.

Re: Jeff Beck Strat

Excellent guitars!! I`ve tried a few in the past and if i had the money for one i`d be all over it!!!

Re: Jeff Beck Strat

My buddy had an early version and it was a great guitar; I have a 2001 version which is the "thinner" neck, which is still fat and it is great as well... I pulled out the noiseless as they always had a low-mid muffle to them and put in Fat 50s and a Twangbanger at the bridge - much nicer Strat sound now.

Fat '50's are great pups. Good choice!

Re: Jeff Beck Strat

Oh, the Hot Noiseless can definately get heavy - if anything, they were made for gain rather than clean! I had a DSL50 at the time and the Beck into it with the gain up was awesome!

Re: Jeff Beck Strat

I remember reading on the Fender site an article comparing the Beck and Clapton strats. It said how the Beck was more of a straight forward axe with the noiseless pups and the really fat neck, and the Clapton was the more hot rodded out of the two. I would love to play both some time, esp the Beck.

I remember reading on the Fender site an article comparing the Beck and Clapton strats. Well the difference, electronically, between the Beck and Clapton strats is the Clapton has the 25db midrange boost, which really screams. The Beck's always had standard strat wiring and circuitry.

Re: Jeff Beck Strat

Do you guys think the Beck CS version is worth the extra money?

No. I've read a review from a guy that has both the production and custom shop version of the Clapton strat. He said both were identical, though the CS has slightly better action and fretwork. If you take a production model and get the frets gone over by a good lutheir, you'll get very close for alot cheaper.

However, the custom shop version is made by the same man that makes Clapton or Beck's strats. So if you want the same exact strat Jeff Beck has, built by the same hands of the same person that builds Beck's strat, CS is the way to go. In my opinion it's more of a status symbol or bragging right

Re: Jeff Beck Strat

i believe the Noiseless PU's in the Beck strat are different then the PU's in the Clapton... different magnets... the Beck has higher output Ceremic magnet Noiseless PU's..

I'd love a new Beck strat!!!!! i'd try my best to keep it stock!!!

Re: Jeff Beck Strat

played the newer sea foam green and white ones - loved them - would buy one

Played an older yellow one with a JB pickup in it, too. Different ballgame there, but thought I'd throw that bit of cool out there as a minor neato. I'm not *very* experienced with strats, but these made me think "Strat" more than any other strat I've played, iffin ya get my jive. I've at least tried a lot of Fender models, though, from the Clapton to the Jimmie Vaughn and the Yngwie, but I don't really have a lot of strat-zen.

If I was gonna ever get a stratty-strat that makes me think "Strat" the most when I play it I would get a new Jeff Beck, but not sea foam green, the white one. The only other Strats I've liked as much were an old old 50's or 60's Fender one and a Tom Anderson.

Re: Jeff Beck Strat

The Beck strat has evolved a bit over the years. Originally it used four Gold Lace Sensors, two singles and a dually at the bridge. So it was essentially a HSS, but it had switching so that only one of the bridge Gold LS could be used by it's self.

Originally the fingerboard was Pau Ferro, later switching to Rosewood in most cases.

A big difference between it and the Clapton guitar is the trem. The Beck strat uses the American Standard two point bridge, in conjuction with a roller nut, and locking tuners for better tuning stability. Beck's playing style uses a trem a lot.

Re: Jeff Beck Strat

How about the Beck vs the Malmsteen? If you had your choice.

me? the Beck wins for pure unadulterated strattiness.
I've only played 4 individual strats that gave me a chubby.
2 were new Becks, there was the old, old Fender, and the Tom.

to weigh the Yngwie fairly I'd need time to adapt to the scallops. And I would probably do things to it pickup-wise. I've only spent a few minutes with two Yngwies, so me personally, I don't really know about that model very well from a chakra pov.

Re: Jeff Beck Strat

all this talk of the Beck strat makes me want one of the new White ones myself!!!!

i wouldn't mind a set of those Hot Noiseless PU's in one of my MIM guitars too...
