Jeff Loomis - guitar only

Re: Jeff Loomis - guitar only

He uses an ENGL SE live, but this album was reamped through a Maxon OD820, Peavey 6505, and Mesa oversized 4x12. What you're hearing is pure 6505.

Talked to Andy Sneap on AIM last month about it - sounds like a pretty average 6505 tone to me! super juicy from the 707's/low tuning/lighter string guage Jeff's been using, and the mic choice was different than the usual SM57 they've gone with in the past. Was asked not to share details on that one, though.

this is stellar news for the 6505! wow! awesome of you to share.
i agree that alot of the tone seems EMG flavored.

Maxon OD820 huh? interesting first time i ever heard of this pedal.

Basically an upgraded TS9 - smoother top end, a bit more gain on tap, and a more open midrange.

Used all the time for boosting high gain amps and making them tighter - if you're into Nevermore, I'm sure you're into other bands that use that same pedal or one similar to boost their amps. Every Nevermore album since Dead Heart was boosted, FWIW.

oh yeah i boost myself just never heard of that particular model, ive read up on it now, expensive! i cant stand playing a amp unless its boosted the low end is always warbley and bloated.
