Those are sweet axes, Jeff. What TP is on the red one?
Do you have a photo of the whole family lying around anywhere??

Damn Jeff... what the heck kind of bridge is that on the 82?

Re: JeffB..here ya go bro! DII pics....(old and new)

Bro...

Thanks so much for posting these for me :)

That 81 is just spectacular! Love the tight flame, and what a pretty piece of mahogany! BTW is it a maple neck? Looks like it.

Your 82 looks like Adrian Smith's set neck..the color, that is. His had a normal stop tail, but what is that Ibanez Tune-O Matic like? (compared to a normal one). It's very wide...I wonder if it helps "coupling" in any way (for sustain/tone purposes)

I so wanna get one of these DIIs...I'm not particular about color so much, but I def will settle only for a mahogany body-set neck..and thats the tough part, isn't it? ;)

And yes, PLEASE post a group shot pic of them all! :D

With all the crap you've owned, there had to be an '81 in there somewhere.:fingersx:

LOL you would think so, wouldn't ya. nope, i have a 1979 Guild and then everything has been from the 90s and newer. i'm looking for an 81 strat that has been modded already so i can go to town on it with no regrets of killing future resale since it was modded before me anyway. still no luck on that though.

You have a link?

Most of the Phil Collen models you find these days are bolt ons w/ basswood body and a kahler unfortunately.

thats the hardest part of it all.

for the most part they are those 2 colors you see there..
red metalic (not a lot of flake) and cherry (or whats that called) sunburst.

mike had one, but it was a reissue bolt on right? i wanted to buy it at first cos i thought it was a set neck one, but after mike came up with the shipping LOL...

ahhh..may have been a "good one" then.

I'll take a look-see around the site tho.

If I had my druthers I think I'd have a TobaccoBurst like Dave Murray's....but his is the only one I've ever seen....may have been a "one off" for him.

BTW..Davey..found a bunch of Dave/Adrian Dean pics :D

Re: JeffB..here ya go bro! DII pics....(old and new)

The tailpiece on the '82 is a short lived tremolo system made by Allparts here in Houston, it mounts to the existing studs and requires no routing.... of course it only has about and octave range and it's been locked for the last ten years. The only reason it's still on there (also have one on one of the others), is because you can actually tune the strings from the bridge to the tailpiece....(high pitched open G chord).

Adrian Smith's Ibanez was bolt-on and not set neck. The candy apple red was never offered in the set neck version...(of course it could have been a custom). See if you can find pics of him playing one and look where the body meets the neck........I haven't really looked for pics..... The basswood bodied DII's are still quite killer, and shouldn't be overlooked, or for that matter anything Ibanez made from '84 and earlier. The X-series with the straight neck (no angle back) have an entirely different radius to the neck and I personally do not like them.
The red '82 has actually been played by Darrell from Pantera....(albeit for only thirty seconds in the dressing room when we use to gig with them), and the biggest gig I've played to date was with this one....no real reason, again just my first one and thought it would be cool....
Not much info on these available and the other one I got last month turned out to be Basswood after all.....no complaints!(it plays faster than any of the rest!)

Family pics tomorrow!!!!!!
