jensen reissues p12r and p12q.

Re: jensen reissues p12r and p12q.

I use a P12Q in my tweed Deluxe clone, and two in my Victoria Double Deluxe.
I like 'em.

Victoria uses a P12R in his tweed Deluxe model, and it sounds great, but that speaker can be a little weak in some amps.

thanks curly! any idea how do they compare to weber's signature series?

Re: jensen reissues p12r and p12q.

The Jensen RI's aren't too bad. Some are better than others. But for the real deal go on ebay and buy some real ones and than have them reconed by a top notch reconer.

If you are looking for that certain sound reminiscent of the 60's and early 70's you'll just smile and say yeah that's the sound.

Can anyone compare them to a C12n?
to me, the difference between a P12Q and a C12N is similar to the voicing difference of similar A2 and A5 pickups ... the P12Q is rounder and more vocal; the C12N is brighter, crisper, with a tighter bottom, and along with the ceramic magnet, has more power handling

I like the C12N in my Blues Junior, since that amp is a little fat and dark, the C12N is a nice compliment. However, it was too bright in my DRRI.

the C12Qs sounded good in my 2 x 12 Fender cab, btw - the somewhat smaller mags got driven well in that cab with my Bassman

people have different opinions about the RI Jensens - like other speakers, it's personal taste. They come at a nice price point, too.

granted, the old ones sound great, but not everyone will buy them. I took Gerald Weber's advice, and replaced the P12R in my tweed Deluxe with a nice newer alnico speaker, and put the Jensen in a box for safekeeping.

sorry, but I haven't tried those

Re: jensen reissues p12r and p12q.

The weber Signature series is pretty good for the money. I have some of the alnico 10's and they are a lot closer to the old Chicago Jensen P10R tone when broken in than most other new stuff. The higher power 12" Signature ceramic is a nice mix of US/Brit speaker styles--a C12N with a Mueller cone.

The Italian Jensen P12R is a dog; breaks up way too early and not very toneful, too dark. The Q or N is better, but the Emi and Weber versions still sound better if your reference point is original Jensens. The cones and suspensions are way too stiff; that's the way they get the power rating (remember, an original P12N w/ 1.5 VC was rated at 18 watts; the new ones are rated 50 watts). Overall, it seems the ceramic Italian Jensens sound better to my ears than their alnicos (and they are a lot cheaper). YMMV...
