Jerry Cantrell's tone!!?? Pickups?

Any Cantrell fans?

I have spent some time over the past few days listening to the latest Cantrell CD and really like his tone. It is beefy and warm and I know he is primarily using his Les Paul (white with poka dots) and can only assume it was used on this CD.

Anyway, I know he was a big user of the JB in his G&L and was wondering if anyone knows whether or not he is using the JB in his LP?

he has always used the JB back with alice,i am a big fan of his with AIC

on the les pauls he used 57 classics which came on the les pauls stock :saeek:

I'm as close to the biggest Cantrell fan you can imagine lol. I tried to find what he uses in the LP, but I never came across it. 57 Classics? Eh maybe, I dunno. If anyone here has a Bogner Shiva, grab a 57 Classic-equipped LP and see if it works or not. I think a JB or possibly a DD would work quite nicely in an LP.

guitar world is where i read it do a search, he likes the pauls they way they are so he left them stock from gibson.

his gold top les paul RI has a set of 57's and so does his white one.

yeah maybe you guys would know but it seems to me that his stock les pauls sound as good as his duncan loaded G+L? maybe it is the amp he uses?
but i know i could not get a gibson pup to sound lie that! :smack:

A friend of mine has a Bogner Shiva and you may be able to get that tone with '57 Classics. I couldn't get too close with his '58 RI LP, but I wasn't playing super loud. To get into that level of saturation you'd have to crank the gain and play window-shaking loud. My guess would be that he's using a JB.

His LP isn't white with polkadots -- it's white with cigarette burns.

Just another reason why he's one of my favorite guitarists...

I'm a huge Cantrell fan (check clips in sig ) Our band has a lot of AIC/Cantrell influence. On the degradtion albume he used two Bogner EL34 Shivas with Greenback and Vintage 30 marshall cabs. As for pickups I always thought he used JBs in all his guitars but I don't know for a fact.

Classic Plus 8.6k #42 enamel a2 with wax can get pretty snatchy. Didn't know Jerry Cantrell had done anything since...

I wouldn't say I like his new tone better. I will always be a huge fan of AiC, but his new stuff is great. There is definately some AiC influence in his new stuff, but it's not like he's trying to do AiC with different people. These days, Degredation Trip gets spun more than anything else in my CD player.

I do like his new tone a lot! I think it is a little warmer........but his AIC tone kicks!! I love his tone no matter what!! One of my favorites.

That is amazinf he uses the 57 Classics. Most agree the new Gibson Burstbuckers are better and I am about to reinstall those in my LP. Why mess with what isn't broken! I can't believe some of the tones Jerry Cantrell gets with the 57 classics.

I saw Carl Bell of Fuel live and he uses the 57s also.....again killer tone.
