Love it! Reminds me of the tone curve of the Custom Custom humbucker tho not nearly so hot. Has to be set very close to the strings, IMO, to match the output of the Fender NoCaster and Fralin Blues Special...but the JD is the equal of either of those once it's adjusted "correctly", or at least for the strong tone I prefer.

Jeremy: why did you stop using it and what do you use now?

Re: Jerry Donahue Tele lead....Jeremy?

I need to try that pickup soon.. shame on me for waiting so long..

Re: Jerry Donahue Tele lead....Jeremy?

It's the Tele pickup I've been searching for, for over 30 years. Ever since I sold my '51 Tele. Sounds pretty much just like the pickup that came with that guitar. The neck went bad and I sold the guitar never realizing how long it would take to replace it! Lew

I'm am on the brink of getting the JD myself. To replace the stock Fender MIM bridge pickup I have in there now. From what I've read and have been advised, this pickup is Ceramic. So on my Rivera Marshall-ish channel, dirty, I've got the tone on 3, presence on 3 and the guitar tone rolled back 1/4 !!

So , from what I've read here and on the Tele board, the JDonahue and its Alnico II, this will give me clarity, without pain yes? So I can really dig in be expressive and not hurt the front row right?
I almost bought a Vintage Stack lead and realized, why I 've gone back to the Tele, clarity. The Vintage Stack sounds cool but the clips just sounds like my HB guitars.
With the JD,, I would be at or slightly above the level of overdrive as the SD clips.
Is it still your favorite?

Holy thread resurrection, Batman! :D

I traded my JD for an Antiquity. I trade that Antiquity for a different Antiquity. As good as the Antiquity's are, I'm thinking of trading back for the JD.

Its that good. ;)

haha I search first and try to zing the member I know is still around

Re: Jerry Donahue Tele lead....Jeremy?

I have owned 3 JD's and installed them in about 5 different Teles. My current Tele has one. Until I find something better, which I doubt I will, it will stay put...

It is, without a doubt, my alltime favorite Tele pickup.

Re: Jerry Donahue Tele lead....Jeremy?

it reminds of the Seth in one regard: it's an alnico 2 pickup that has some BITE.

it's an expressive, touch sensitive vintage style tele pickup

Just to be clear, I wasn't poking fun at you. Its great when folks use the search function. I was just amazed by how far back you went. Good job! :)

Re: Jerry Donahue Tele lead....Jeremy?

I actually just bought the Vin Stack STK-T3 last night..the JD is next, if I find the STK-3 doesn't have enough life with my amp gain rolled back

Re: Jerry Donahue Tele lead....Jeremy?

I agree with Lou...the JD is one of the best Tele bridge pickups I've ever used. That's including most of the SD line, boutique stuff, and some 50's pickups that I was swapping in and out for a long time.

I have used an STK-T3 in a couple of Teles. I thought it was a really nice pickup; but a little too polite for my taste.

I'll just think of it as the first step in a progression, from big high output fullsize HB's i'm used to, to the J Donahue or some other pure single
