Jerry Garcia was a brass or chrome pickup case im not sure what its called but look at the pictures of the wolf guitar and the 3 pickup sit in this brass or chrome case what is this called?

What does this do to the pickups flux or sound?

guitar with a plate system for mounting pickups
made of solid brass and are chrome-nickel plated

I seen this on fender tele's does this "plate system" change the magnets flux or frequency response?

Walters, my guess is that it was just cosmetic and afforded him the ability to change from single coils to humbuckers while keeping the guitar nice looking.

There's a yahoo group called "Gear Heads" that is dedicated to the Dead's gear; that might be a good place to check.

If you are building a clone there are people who make that kind of thing as well.
