Jet City 2x12 vs Other 2x12

So, I purchased a barely used Jet city 2x12 cab from MF a couple weeks ago, and it sounds pretty good with my V32 palomino. But, it turns out I have a refund from the university coming through pretty soon and I'm still within the return period of MF, so I was wondering how much better some of the industry standard 2x12 cabs are. Is it worth the extra 200-300 bucks?

Also, if anyone happens to know how these stack up against Whitebox cabs I'd be very interested.

Thanks in advance

Re: Jet City 2x12 vs Other 2x12

BTW I'm sort of talking about the stuff I wouldn't be able to try at your average guitar store like Avatar, Orange, Bogner, etc.

Re: Jet City 2x12 vs Other 2x12

Well... I can't speak to jet city, but i know i just got my first orange PPC212 (british closed back, not chinese open) and it sounds as big as any 4x12 i've played (next to the orange 4x12, which my marshall 1960A cab literally fit inside of.... :)

If you're not in love with the sound of the jet city, i'd say youll be thankful for spending the money on a "real" cab... though i know others will argue. The Quality construction is just on another level... and i'm digging the V30's :D

Re: Jet City 2x12 vs Other 2x12

See one of my main concerns is those V30s and my already-insanely-bright Palomino. Sounds like icepicks in my ears lol. Isn't the orange cab pretty small compared to other 2x12s? Not that its a major concern, just wondering.

Re: Jet City 2x12 vs Other 2x12

I've heard nothing but great stuff about the lopo cabs. I have an Avatar 2x12 and it sounds really good as well. The Jet City heads sound good, but the cabs seem like they're cheaply made. I don't think they're bad for the money if your on a budget, but there are better cabs out there for not much more.

If nothing else, see if you can find a cheaper unloaded cab and find some used speakers that fit your needs better. Warehouse Guitar Speaker sound pretty good and they're not that expensive.

Re: Jet City 2x12 vs Other 2x12

I suppose that's true. For the record there's nothing wrong with the Jet City Cab I'm just sort of wondering how much better a "real" cab would be.

So anybody play a whitebox?

I don't know about the 2x12's they offer, but if they are built anything like the 1x12 they have, I wouldn't even bother buying another cab. My buddy just got one and put a G12H in it and it sounds REALLY good. There are probably better cabs out there, but how much better for the cost is debatable.

Those are two words I thought I'd never hear in the same sentence together - bright and Palomino. That's exactly what my V32 lacks. Clean it's not so bad, but the distortion is mud. That's why I started acquiring pedals - the clean is fairly good, and it takes pedals well. Probably should have just saved up for a new amp  That's why I'm getting a new (to me) head tomorrow :)

EDIT: For the record, I still have the stock cab, although I swapped the **** stock Celestions for a V30 and a Greenback. Maybe you have a different version than I do - mine is the one with cream tolex, made in 'nam.

I have the stock 70/80 in there right now and mine was made in the good ole US of A. I think part of the problem may be the preamp tubes I have in it. Most people go with all JJs but I have tungsol in V1 and EHs in everything else. Maybe that's why Idk. All I know is I normally have to roll the treble back to like 9 O'clock. Is the bass turned up on your amp? Mine is really woofy so I have that almost off. Turning it up doesn't make it warmer though, just bassier if that makes any sense.

Yeah, the tubes might be it - I've got JJ's all around in there. I haven't tried messing with different tubes in it, but after I get my dream amp tomorrow, I won't care how good this thing COULD sound. It won't sound as good as my new amp. I can't wait to show it off tomorrow lol

The JCA24S is a very good quality built cab.
It's all plywood construction. No MDF.
Removable back panel to make it open or closed back.
Clean wiring.
Able to use 16 ohm stereo or 8 ohm mono.

Here's mine.

I didn't care for the MIC Eminence speakers. and swapped them out.

I use it with my Carvin heads and cranked it with no farting out issues.

I also have a Crate V Series V1512 combo.
But, that is 16 ohms mono.
So, I can only leave the JCA in stereo mode and use only one side.
My guess is your V32 is going to be the same way?
Or is there an impedence switch on those?

No impedance switch - you can only run it at 8 ohms. Sucks big time

Re: Jet City 2x12 vs Other 2x12

Alright so I made a decision. I got the return number from MF and I'm sending the Jet city 2x12 back, and getting a Whitebox with my school refund in a few weeks. Now I just need to decide what speakers will go in it...

Thanks for the help guys.
