Jet City JCA22H Custom tweak thread

Re: Jet City JCA22H Custom tweak thread

I find the JJ are a bit darker and smoother.
Chinese have more gain and harmonic content.
EH are very bright. Too bright for my tastes. Same with Tung-Sol.
I like the Sovtek LPS for the phase inverter but they are too harsh for gain stages imo.

Used some old WXT Sovetecs in the rest as the Chineze tubes were way way to noisy that came in the amp. The JJ's gave it some body and sweetened it up nicely in this circuit. Funny i love the Shunghangs in my Boogies but man are they ever nasty and noisy in the Jet City!
Went through EH's TungSols the reissue Mullards and some NOS sets but this combo in this amp was the one that really worked well.
Power tubes are TAD's now with the pair of JJ's V1 and 2 and the generic Sovetecs in the rest it just worked.

Yeah, it’s funny how different amps relate differently to the same tubes.
My Marshall loves nos tubes more then new production.
And my Quickrod likes new production better....at least that’s how my ears hear it.

What is a good price on a JCA22H? I might want to pick one up.

Thanks.

Yes it is and this one in particular really surprised me with what it liked. Went through a number of different combos before I found this one but it really woke this amp up. Biggest shocker were the Sovetecs and how much going to a full set from V3 to 5 over the stock Chinese Shunghangs dropped the noise floor in this amp. Have a BUNCH of Sovetecs on hand so finally finding a home for them was not a bad thing.
