JHS Bonsai

Does the world need another pedal? No! Does the world need another tube screamer pedal? HELL NO! However, this pedal makes a lot of sense and covers a lot of ground and is a very big help not only on your pedalboard but also in the studio. Those who boost amps know how frustrating it can be to love an amp, love a pedal and not have them work well together in a certain scenario. This pedal solves a huge majority of those pairing problems simply because it has 9 pedals with their accompanying circuits within the pedal itself. All you have to do is turn the dial until you find something that agrees with your amp and then tweak from there. I find it convenient and a must have pedal if you ever do any type of boosting. I also was able to try a couple of circuits I never had tried before. Calculate the cost of all of these pedals in comparison to what the Bonsai costs and it is a no brainer. Where else can you get the replication of over 4 decades worth of pedals in a standard sized enclosure? The guitar community needs more well thought out products like this. Great job JHS!

Nine overdrive pedals packed into one housing:
  • OD1 (1977) A brighter and somewhat higher gain mode that doesn't utilize the Tone knob
  • TS808 (1979) The classic low-gain grind with the signature mid-bump
  • TS9 (1982) Similar to the TS808, but with a brighter, SRV-style sound
  • MSL (1985) The "metal" version produces a higher-gain sound with more low end
  • TS10 (1986) Replicates the bluesy low-gain sound popularized by John Mayer
  • XR (1989) Duplicates the Polish-made EXAR OD1, known for its unique drive character and slightly higher gain
  • TS7 (1999) The late-'90s overdrive with a "hot mode" that yields more gain and low-end dirt
  • Keeley (2002) Robert Keeley’s classic Mod+ that tightens up your tone and gives you less noise, along with smoother mids and highs and increased bass
  • JHS (2008) JHS's "Strong Mod" that gives you a cleaner sound with a serious power boost
JHS Bonsai Features:
  • Overdrive pedal that packs 9 classic overdrives into a single housing
  • Replicates 4 decades' worth of pedals using analog circuitry
  • Boasts the exact same components as the source units
  • Dial in the perfect sound with Volume, Tone, and Drive controls
  • True bypass switching preserves your tone when the pedal is off
  • Ruggedly built and handwired pedal

yep, its a cool pedal for sure. its fun to flip through and hear all the different versions tonal changes but a very useful thing to have

I was surprised how on some amps I may not like a certain version and then switch amps up and the version I liked least on the other amp is now my favorite on the current amp. ha!

Is there a vid of each setting up against a real one? I'd love to hear how close they get.

[Edit] Of course there is...

Honestly, most of them don't sound different enough for me to care. But very interesting. Been shopping Green OD's ever since I got my BBE Green Screamer...That said, $200 for an 808, a 9, 7 on hot...that's $200 right there easy on a good shopping day. The rest is cake.

They are the same circuits so they should sound like the originals. The two modded versions are nice as well. These aren't emulations, they are the pedals circuitry themselves, all in one box.
There are clear differences in each version. Stop being such a grumpy ass and go buy one and be done with it.

I'm surprised JHS pedals come up so infrequently here as a topic of discussion. Josh pops up on my YouTube feed daily.

JHS pedals are a little outside the box for me. Good stuff - never heard any complaints.
The 3 series or whatever at $99 seem pretty cool if I were looking for basic pedals - but I got all of those.

I love Josh's YouTube stuff.
