Jimi's Tone on Foxy Lady

What pickups would i use to help me get that tone, the notes seem explode and splatter through the speakers! I can't believe he's playing a strat on that song. Did he use some kind of pedal or is that all amp distortion?

Re: Jimi's Tone on Foxy Lady

I believe he's using the neck pickup on a 60's Strat and is using something like a Fuzz Face or an Octave Fuzz.

Re: Jimi's Tone on Foxy Lady

That's about right. I think the Duncan SSL-1's get real close to that tone...that's why I like 'em! Lew

Re: Jimi's Tone on Foxy Lady

The SSL-1's, if anything, are THICKER and "better" sounding than the Fender/CBS-era pickups Jimi used. I never liked those Fender/CBS Strats when they were new...tho now that some of them are over 30 years old they sound better to me. Anyways, the SSL-1's would do the trick for me...

Thanks Lew, guess I'll try those then, and maybe a Fulltone Ultimate Octave Fuzz, see if they're worth the dough.

Maybe...

Personally, I like the Fulltone Clyde Deluxe Wah and Fulltone '69 Pedal. Those two combined, to me, NAILS the Hendrix tones I love. Makes my guitar talk! Lew

Re: Jimi's Tone on Foxy Lady

for jimi's earlier fuzz tone you want a 2 knob germanium fuzzface, or similar.
i had a mjm london fuzz that was dead on hendrix.

Re: Jimi's Tone on Foxy Lady

Ever tried the SSL-1's, they might get you there.

Re: Jimi's Tone on Foxy Lady

did he record with plexi's much? i've read he used alot of fenders in his later recordings.
