Please would someone update this thread with some , or at least one functioning wiring diagram showing this JV Wiring (tone pot 1 for neck, tone pot 2 for bridge and middle completely removed from the tone circuit, plus the added ‘50s mod for placing the tone circuit after the volume output??!! I know it’s an ancient zombie but it’s still a popular mod which I and others need a live functioning diagram for. All the old posts with diagrams seem to be dead...Thanks!!

Here ya go:



That blue wire is totally optional by the way. All it does is make it so that tone control #1 controls the neck and the middle. I like that as an option because the neck and middle tend to work best for me at the same tone settings (especially given how interactive the controls are with 50s wiring), but it also allows me to shave off some of the highs on the bridge pickup.

Thanks! Just for reference, how would you alter the above to have :
1.one tone for the bridge and none for the neck or middle (other tone pot disengaged completely)?
2. one tone for bridge and neck (other tone pot disengaged completely)?

1- get rid of the blue wire, the black wire that connects to the same lug as the blue wire, and move the tone cap so that it connects from the second lug of tone control 2 to the back of the pot.

2- Remove the blue wire, remove the 1st tone control and everything attached to it (put the tone cap in the same place as above), and jumper the 2nd a 4th lugs on the right side of the 5 way switch.

Why does the Fender wiring for the Eric Johnson strat here:

connect the pickup leads to the opposite side of the switch to the Jimmy Vaughan wiring schematic here:

and does it make any difference to the tone whatsoever? I only ask as I received a secondhand prewired assembly/pickguard wired the EJ way shown in the Fender schematic above and thought it was really odd until I saw the official Fender diagram for the EJ strat! It just seems the opposite to the way wiring is usually connected to the switch and I can’t understand why Fender would do that??!!

I have two strats with the EJ/Jimmie Vaughan tone mod, and I love it. You can roll back the tone on the bridge pickup, and I seldom use the middle pickup alone anyway, and if it is used with the bridge or neck pickup you sill have tone control. It's only wide open by itself, which doesn't sound all that bad.

No difference in the wiring electrically. They both accomplish the same thing. Both sides of the switch are electrically the same so it doesn't matter.
