Jimmy Herring and 59' Humbuckers?????

How does Jimmy Herring get such a good tone with a strat loaded with SD 59' humbuckers? I've got his exact setup for playing with Aquarium Rescue Unit. Strat loaded with 59's>>Volume Pedal>>Hughes and Kettner Tube Factor>>Super Reverb with Tone Tubbies(2 alnico, 2 ceramics). All I get is a bright buzzsaw type drive, that lacks sweet compression and sustain. I have to work to hard to get sustain out of this setup. What could be the problem?
Is it pickup height..........I've got both setup at 3/32 on both sides.
Is the amp not biased right?

To be honest ever since I got these Tone Tubbys I haven't been able to get a good sound. I think they're pretty well broken in......I could be wrong though.

Get the volume up on the Super Reverb. Use the tube factor to push the amp without getting a swarm of bees out of the gain knob.

Make sure your guitar's action isn't too low, and use 10's or higher.
