Just installed the JJ ECC83-S that I got from the tubestore today. I have been fretting over my 2x12 120 watt laney for awhile now. Got it for 700 bucks during a period where i decided i had been blowing my money on 'fun' for too long and was gonna get some serious gear to replace my squier and peavey rage. Got an LP studio and got the laney, both for a great deal. But the more i started to evolve thanks specifically to you guys, I realized i had a lemon on my hands. When i began jamming with a drummer i realized that when i cranked the amp the sound was brittle and very punchy. Then someone told me that i would need a speaker change to remedy the problem (i have NO cash, i had banked on this being THE rig to get me through til after college). After much research and very appreciated advice from this forum, i decided to get a tube replacement as a last ditch effort to find satisfaction. All I can say is that i am completely stunned. I was expecting to have the same crap amp, but with less shrillness. What emerged was an absolutely beautiful clean and dirty tone. The way it breaks up is so crunchy, very articulate. It brought out amazing tone from my custom. I also found i was able to strum full chords with much more OD then possible before. Thanks for the advice guys, you told me exactly what to get and it worked like a charm!:smokin:
