Joan Jett Signature Melody Maker

Re: Joan Jett Signature Melody Maker

The strap was a free door prize...

It’s a pink fuzzy leopard print nightmare. I didn’t have a spare strap at the time of the picture. I only used it for a few days till I found a nice black leather one.

Now that Amp Head is a story…

It’s Prototype Randell BMF Guitar Amp made for the guitarist Slash which somehow never got to him…it ended up in a Sam Ash store being sold as a used item and was on hold for another famous guitarist George Lynch, but through a store error the Amp is now part of My Band’s hit making machine,

I hear George Lynch was pissed big time.

I was wondering about the head. Looks tuff. You say its a randall.. Is it solid state or module??

Re: Joan Jett Signature Melody Maker

At least it's not $2,000+ like some other signature models.
+1. Cool to see an artist model that's not overpriced.

I like it.

Gibson's ad text goes on about how period correct everything is and how it's just like Joan's guitar. But for a long time, and maybe still, she used a Velvet Hammer pickup. Gibson put one of their pickups in her sig model guitar.

Maybe that's why the price tag's lower. It's not exactly like her guitar, in one pretty important way.

Re: Joan Jett Signature Melody Maker

I've always liked the double cutaway 61-65 Melody makers more than the earlier single cut or the later sg-style versions, but if I was buying a MM I think I'd prefer to have the weak, jangly single coil pickup, for the Paul Westerberg sound.

I miss my old Melody Maker. It had an incredibly fat neck.

It's an all tube monster.

Like I’ve said earlier in the thread I wasn’t big on “Signature” models and thought the Joan Jett Melody Maker was just hype until I played it.

I think it may go down as one of the most under appreciated Gibson models as of late. I think only 400 of them were made.

I don't know of anyone who'd put an attenuator on a solid state...

good point... I was even checking out the attenuator, cuz I want to get one, but then it didnt dawn on me when I asked the question.. brain fart.

Re: Joan Jett Signature Melody Maker

I thought that the Humbucker, Nickel/Silver Alloy Frets, Ebony Fingerboard, Tune-O-Matic Bridge w/ Stop Bar Tailpiece, Grover Tuners and the hard case was worth the extra $250

The JJ Guitar is a great deal at under $800

No doubt, wasn't trying to dis it in anyway, just a preference on shape. The JJ is a far nicer guitar than the faded MM stock.
