what ya think about it? going from four 100w heads (two running at a time) with a big pedal board to four tweed amps and three pedals (wah, boost, chorus). no reverb or delay seems like a big change.

Re: joe bonamassa's new rig

he changes rigs like most people change underwear.

All depends on what kinda gigs/music he's playing.

Indeed! And he sounds great no matter what.

Link to the new setup? No delay does seem interesting for him.

Re: joe bonamassa's new rig

I like the honesty about being afraid to play his own songs without delay and all that. I'd really like to hear this new rig in action, but I'm gonna bet it sounds just like old Joe.

Re: joe bonamassa's new rig

i dont know about a fender deal but he is using four OLD tweed fenders, two '59 twins and two '58 bassmans not new stuff. im sure it sounds great.

i bet i like his playing more without all the delays and reverb

Re: joe bonamassa's new rig

I thought Eric Snapped up all the old Twins? Those babies are at least 15 grand a pop.. IF you can find em. Yes Sir, two tweed twins, and four holy grail 4x10 Bassmans ... I mean, what am i supposed to say..no??

Oh yeah, two Tweed Twins and two Tweed Bassmans..now THAT is a show I would go out of my way to attend.
Lots of people do not quite get what all that vintage Tweed amp means for sound, and thats what Joe is a players player! ..Many folks think reproductions are just as good which really does not even begin to be half true. There is literally no comparison. The fact that reproductions sound so great, and they do, is misleading, because the true vintage amps sound worlds better.
Joe is such a great player and a great performing artist. Lots of great players cannot put on a excellent show like Bonomassa.

I found it really interesting what joe said about playing with a dry tone. Its something i've been grappling with recently too. Kudos to joe for seeking new avenues to create music and to keep pushing himself.

Re: joe bonamassa's new rig

I think folks who say Joe is all technique have not listened to his entire catalog... I am also very interested to learn more about his new rig... he did not have those Dumbles for long, either

Strangely, to me, that doesn't sound like that much of a change. Just losing delays and reverb mainly, and going to a slightly lower power level. I don't know what the original tweeds sound like exactly, but I've played through a '57 reissue can sound just like a marshall when the treble is slightly dialed back and the bass is rolled off just under a quarter turn on the amp, but it has the benefit of several more sounds available that a marshall can't do by simply pushing either the bass, treble or both to their limits on the amp.

Sorry but if i have to listen to an artists entire catalog to find something good... then its not the artist for me

Re: joe bonamassa's new rig

Here's his performance at the Notes for Notes concert around eight weeks ago. He was playing his just-acquired '59 burst through a tweed.

The guys he's playing with are members of Conan's Basic Cable Band.
