Joe Satriani rig rundown

Re: Joe Satriani rig rundown

That was the best rig rundown... Joe really seems to know his stuff and what he wants and doesn't... really just seems to use what works and sounds great and not worry about boutique or gadgets.

Re: Joe Satriani rig rundown

If I lived in a place that I could realistically crank up a JVM or any Marshall beast for that matter I`d own one but I don`t:sad: Satriani will be in the Bay Area Thursday , I`m so tempted to go hear those JVMs blasting.
Come over to my house and you can hear one blast.:)

True.. Thats one thing I like and respect about Joe.. I remember years back, vai had about 3 racks full of stuff. Seems like Joe has a pretty straightforward rig going..
Ill bet the tweaks he makes to the Marshall should be tasty.. I really liked the features on the JSX.

My take on Marshall is that they are legendary. I dont like anything they have offered in many years tho.. I Like the JVM alot but was worried that all the buttons and gadgets would fail and was tempted by the vintage modern, but they seemed inconsistant. I played one that sounded great and the others didnt. In all fairness I didnt get to spend alot of time dialing it in. I think that it is mostly too straightforward for my liking. I havent figured out what my style is yet (Im close) so I like versatility. (yeah, I spend too much time fiddling and not enough playing) The VM is a straight up rockin marshall amp.. I had a PV Windsor, same thing. I didnt gel with it cuz I was looking for more flexibility..

Re: Joe Satriani rig rundown

I hear ya BR, but a straight up amp is easier to dial and will have less problems imho. I can get my 800 to sound like almost anything I need to with a couple stompys and the volume knob on my guitar... and the one thing it does great... well, it does great! No compromise on the dirt sounds at all!

I mean, live most people could care less if my clean sound isn't as jangly as it could be lol... they are all too drunk and singing along any how!

Re: Joe Satriani rig rundown

Blackstar is one example of jaded former Marshall employees wanting to do things that players want, not just live in the past and rest on the laurels of Hendrix, et al. I've also heard old Marshalls and newer Marshalls that sound like total @$$.

Like I said, Satch could play an Agile into a practice amp and sound amazing.

Despite that I'm a total Marshall nut, I can only agree on those points.

Yeah, about 2 years back on eBay he actually sniped a DS-1 out form under me. Bastard! :lmao:

Really cool gear hightlight.

This video has inspired me to get my BYOC DS-1 clone up and running.

True. Im sure my issue right now is lack of chops.. once I get the hands/brain dialed in, Ill be less reliant on the gear.

That long drive just might be worth it . You got any Absolut and cranberry juice in the cupboards:beerchug:

Barney: Hi, sad-eyes. What's got you down?

Claudia: Stuart and I just broke up.

(Claudia starts to cry)

Barney: Oh, God, I'm so sorry. That's just, that's just... (to bartender) two vodka cranberries.

Claudia: You remembered I drink vodka cranberries.

Barney: Remember? When it comes to you, how could I forget?

Barney: (to bartender) They all drink vodka cranberries.

I've got some Absolut, but no cranberry juice. I do however have some kahlua and half and half.
