Joe Satriani uses Duncans?

I was watching the Joe Satriani Fillmore DVD and during the song "Cool #9" there`s a close up of his Ibanez Chromeboy and the pickups have Seymour Duncan stamped on them. I always thought that Satch was a Dimarzio user and endorser?

The Pearly Gates were supposed to give him a more organic sound compared to the Fred. Didn't Satriani have a Pearly Gates equipped Ibanez named Pearly stolen in Florida?

This is similar to the satch ibanez thread. On tour generally he uses Ibanez and Dimarzio because he is a highly paid/status endorsee for them, he has to. That doesn't mean he doesn't own a great deal of other guitars and use them on the album. It's not such a big deal with pickups though because most people aren't looking that closely or care. But even on the Live in San Francisco DVD you can see the Pearly Gates in one of his chrome boy guitars. He switches guitars 3 times during that show, but uses that one for the majority of the set.

"Pearly" is a chrome JS1000 that is loaded with two Duncan Pearly Gates pickups. The guitar itself is the same as Chromeboy, which uses a PAF Pro and a FRED.

Satch uses that guitar for a good 50% of the Live in SF DVD. "Until we say goodbye" is a beautiful showcase tune for that guitar. The guitar has also been set up and intonated with the Feiten system as well.

And yes the guitar was stolen sometime after that DVD was released. :17: Look at Joe's site, www.satriani.com , for more info in the gear section.

And yes, just because Joe endorses Ibanez and Dimarzio doesn't mean he HAS to use their stuff exclusively... it's different for each contract.
