Johnson J-Station and Johnson Amps

I've been reading good things about the J-Station modeler and Johnson modeler tube amps. They were apparently acquired by Digitech some time ago, but still produce the products. Do any of you have experience with their products?

Re: Johnson J-Station and Johnson Amps

When the Johnson modeling amp was first introduced, I gave one a test drive. It had ONE channel that I liked.

It cost about twice what the Line 6 Axys 212 was going for at the time.

My dad had the J-Station for awhile. It actually had some cool settings. The acoustic channels were quite usable as well.

i have one of the older metal cased J-stations. it is really good, actually. some great sounds, better than the POD.

Re: Johnson J-Station and Johnson Amps

I have a J-Station. If you can snag one on eBay . . . get it. They're killer. They may not be "authentic" Marshall, or Fender, or whatever, but whatever they are, they sound great. Run the stereo output into a small stereo system and you have the perfect practice amp. Run the outputs into a pro PA amp, (ie., Crown, etc.) and you have a killer SS amp system.

The cool thing about the J-Station is that you can mix & match speaker cabs with amp models. If you want to run a 15" speaker with a Fender Blackface, do it. If you want a 412 cab with an AC30, so be it.

I had two. My friend talked me out of one. Traded me a Tobias bass for it. I still think he got the better deal.

Did I mention . . . I love mine. ;)

Re: Johnson J-Station and Johnson Amps

a friend of mine uses a J-Station into a Hiwatt stack and he loves it.. but at the same time he also sends the Piezo's of his Godin LGX to the PA as well for a 2 sound set up...

i loved the sounds Randy Bachman got from his Johnson amp and Yamaha guitars on the Running Back Thru Canada cd set... great sound!!!

Re: Johnson J-Station and Johnson Amps

I have the J-station that I picked up for home practice and home recorded.

it sounds excellent. To my ears, it sounds better than any modelling unit out here. POD, V-Amp, etc..

The Rectifier setting on it sounds excellent. I even plugged mine through my VHT 2502 Poweramp and into my VHT 412 cabinet and sounded awsome. I had to turn the cabinet simulator off though cause it sounded too bassy.

Get one if you want something for home recording.

Cheers

I have the J-Station and love it. The website is still operational and you can download the software and presets. To get the most out of the unit, I strongly suggest hooking it up to your computer. The ease of deep editing increases greatly. The interface is like a rack system with a compressor/gate/delay/reverb/wah that you can use simultaneously and a menu of effects that you can use one at a time (phaser/flange/chorus/pitch/trem/rotary).

As stated, the coolest feature is the ability to combine heads with cabinets for an almost infinte number of sounds. You even get a few bass amp models for when you need them.

As you can tell, I am a fan. Check out the J-station user group on myspace for some clips.

Great! I didn't know there was a MySpace page. Does this unit work with any kind of pedal for switching presets? How would you rate it compared to the GT-8 or POD?
