Jolly, Lew, Jump et al: Thanks for the Jazz Advice

I put the Jazz in the neck of my Jackson Dinky (swapped out an Alnico II Pro). While I had the patient on the gurney, I cut the Singing Demon out and put my old dusty JB in the bridge.

Perfection, man! :butkick:

The JB didn't sound that good in my soloist, but for some reason it really wants to be in this Dinky. It smokes and I have a new respect for the JB.

The Jazz. Sheeeeet man. Sounds fantastic clean (which was what I was really looking for), but under high gain I was very pleasantly surprised. Very articulate, and I was able to nail my first sweep apreggio. It's like two pickups in one. Man, I'm stoked on this old guitar again. Thanks.

Now, what to do with the Alnico II Pro? Will this ever end?

Yeah you can't go wrong with so much people talking about this combo.
So do you got some soundclips of the Jazz? Preferbly high gain and maybe some palm mutes.
I'm really interested in the Jazz and the SD in neck position.

I WISH I had a way to record something. Cakewalk or something similar is next on my wish list. I don't have any way of recording my "best brutal distortion clips" (as WFD would say) at this time. Sorry, man.

That's great! Glad it worked out for you. So often a pickup sounds killer in one guitar doesn't work so well in another. Just the resonance of one guitar vs. another guitar I guess. Lew

Welcome to the Alnico 5 Club! I don't know why, but my ears always gravitate toward Alnico 5, as opposed to Alnico II. Yours probably do too, and you just realized it.

Yeah, it's a good sounding deal, and it's really got me playing that "old" guitar again.

On this Alnico II vs V subject (I'm new to all this), I put the Alnico II Pro in the neck of my Les Paul. I liked the APH in my Jackson because it was real mellow sounding (and that's what I wanted at the time), so I figured it'd be doubly (not dolby) good in the LP. Well, it sounds fantastic in the LP... almost too much so. Actually I think that the combined sustaining qualities of each part are causing chords and notes to "crash" into each other. It sounds almost harp-like and chiming on certain settings on my Line6, almost to the point of losing articulation and definition. I'm still deciding whether I like the APH in the Paul or not.

If not.. out with the APH and in with the Jazz (or 59n). Will it never end?? So many choices. This is what GAS must feel like.
