JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

I have no idea man, never owned any suhr, but they are supposed to be good (and expensive )

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

Let us know how it is when it arrives...and we want pics!

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

I guess I'm a bit late. I've never owned an Ibanez electric but I've also never liked any I've played. By contrast, I've had a dozen or so MusicMans, and still own 2. I have two Suhrs (Modern Pro and Modern Custom) and I don't feel they're anywhere near the level my JP15 is at.

I've never played a JP13; but I can tell you the JP15 is a very special MusicMan indeed, JP or not. It's such a fantastic instrument. All-satin and with the figured top feels a lot more 'organic' (urgh... sorry) than other JPs. It's well-balanced acoustically, with a little bite in the treble but an overall thick and pleasant tone. And thankfully they changed the pickups on the JPs because the CLab/Liquifire was a TERRIBLE combo to my ears.

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

Well I ordered the Suhr. Felt like a safe bet

Huh

How ironic, I bet 3/4 of this forum would never order or even consider outside guitars if they had direct unfetterred access to the Japanese market

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

Well I got the Suhr. While it's generally a well made guitar, its frets are sticking out some on the sides from the winter weather. I also am a little disappointed by the sounds. I know it may sound strange but I generally prefer my AZ with the pickups changed. I really wanted a neck humbucker, but the SSV just doesn't sound strong enough for my taste. The one big thing I like is absolutely no fret buzz despite a lower action. The AZ can't really get that low.

Now kinda thinking about that JP13 again, or a J Custom. There is a cool looking J Custom with SS frets and fishmam fluence modern pickups in the 2019 line. What do you think of the fishman moderns for lead? Pretty much all I can find on YouTube is numetal chugging.

Maybe that JP is worth the risk after all...?

Anyways I'm fixing to send it back. I could make it work but at that price I want to be wowed.

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

A smart person would get an Aristides 060, and welcome the utter lack of tuning instability, winter frets and praise the sheer three dimensional tone arium produces.

Aristides ftw.

I had never heard of these so of course I looked them up.
Dude, these are seriously nice guitars!
Are these yours?

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

I work at Aristides, yes. I'm the cnc machinist.

DAMN NO!

I WAS the cnc machinist. Now I'm the Logistics Manager but still heavily involved with the cnc. We made guitars for the world's greatest. Including Kirk Hammett, Ihsahn, Leprous, Jeff Stinco and Matt heafy.

Feel free to contact me for any info. Unofficially of course :D

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

I didn't say it has to be a J Custom. What makes it much better than the regular Prestige? I thought the price point beyond which you pay nothing but bragging rights and cosmetics is 1500 dollars, arount that?

I'd suggest RG652 or 655. Or something similar (I haven't checked out 2018/ 2019 models yet).

Or how 'bout an FGN? The poorman's Suhr/ Tom Anderson.

Edge Zero is probably pretty good but it's not Japanese; not Gotoh. You do realize that in the guitar world, if it ain't made in USA, Japan, or Germany, it ain't worth checking out.

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

That's a funny statement. Larrivee began as a canadian company, same for Godin. Alhambra is spanish. Aristides is Dutch, Koch Amps is Dutch as well. Van de Haar (Bogner's favorite brand) is Dutch. Feline Guitars is British, Blackmachine is British. VanderMeij is Dutch (amazing luthier too).

The world is bigger than just USA, Japan or Germany.

Not to mention some up and coming eastern european luthiers and even some super-high end Indonesian luthiers.

Just judge a guitar by its quality, not where it comes from. I've had super-supersuper****ty USA made Guilds in my shop, with quality issues so poor, a Chinese Guild wouldn't even hit the market with issues like that.

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

and i forgot the Polish brands Skervesen and Mayones and Ran, or the Australian dude Ormsby. Or the Swedish brand Strandberg (originally, anyway ;) )

Just saying.
