JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

Yes! Thank you for subtly pushing me back on track.

I love iba J's. I love their fretwork, fret dressing. I love the esthetics. I would take that one over an MM. I don't get along that well with MM necks, I don't like the looks and I don't like the headstock.

In terms of quality... Ibanez. For sure. I never found an MM I felt was worth the price.

But that's just my opinion.

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

I guess I'm leaning toward the RG. One of my first electrics was an RG470 so I feel at home on them, and that green top imo is to die for.

The big unknown is the pickups. I wish they had the alnico modern neck pup.

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

I didn't make the rules, that's just reality. I have seen numerous idiots in this forum so hell bent on Japs and American made, dissing anything made in Indonesia and China. Those snobs at Jemsite don't even consider anything not made in Japan.

Sad but true.

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

I believe I have an account on the jemsite forum thingy but with less than a dozen posts. Never bothered to really dive into that forum. I only know that what Europeans and Japanese are churning out, in terms of quality, whipes the floor with the majority of American luthiers. I've been to NAMM 4 times now, every time this belief gets reconfirmed.

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

So they didn't offer a good enough discount on the j.custom. Now I just am hoping something comes out of NAMM that blows me away, but it looks like most guitars have already been announced (?).

The Ibanez line is extremely frustrating now, too.
I want a mahogany body, edge or lo-pro trem, SS frets and a maple top. The only guitar that has all this is the $3700 j custom I was writing about.

Prestige regular: no SS frets, imo super boring looking. The gold one looks cool but is Ash and maple.
Prestige SS: awful colors. Slime green and ultra-boring blue.

J-customs: zero edge on the ones with AN/TZ.
Fusion (apparently mediocre) pickups on the ones with a lo-pro.

Are they just forcing people to choose the $3700 model?

I have been less than thrilled with Ibanez’s colors for a while now.

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

With the flood of guitars announced, there is many more that won't get the 'headline space' that might be amazing guitars. If you are stuck on Ibanez, you might not find what you like, but there are 100s of other great companies out there.

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

How about a Charvel? US model, whats your budget?

Thanks for your reply. I've eyed them. Just 2 reservations: 1) tonally I think it's going to be pretty similar to my AZ (with the Aldrich) right? I believe they are generally alder and maple. 2) No ss frets(?)

My budget is up to $2800 USD (though I'm in Japan so prices are a little different)

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

It's a sweet axe, but the cheapest I found was $4100 new. Also, I think mahogany or maybe basswood would be best.

I guess we have NAMM in a few hours...

Re: JP13 or Ibanez J.Custom?

So glad I can build my own guitars and don't need to hope, wait and see what manufacturers do.

Options for custom guitars are a bit more limited here. If I want a strat, they can do that. Other types? Haven't found much
