JTM 45 reissue

What do you guys think about buying a JTM 45 reissue and modding it? Ie, output transformer and a PTP wired board?

What would be the going price on used ones, say from the early 90s? What would be a *good* deal?

Re: JTM 45 reissue

:scratchchSeems like a good idea to me. Unfortunately they start out with a big price tag for a new head. I guess the key, of course, would be in finding a used reissue that was cheap. Seeing as how you would basically be gutting the amp, even a non-working reissue would be desirable. You just need a good looking cab with all the knobs and a working power transformer. Obviously MM makes a OP transformer. Is there a source for turret boards for this model? Not sure, but I think there is only one or two companies that make a tube anywhere near the real specs of the original KT66. I think you are on to something here.
Great idea ModestCargo! Any of you amp guys have some answers?

Re: JTM 45 reissue

Why don't you just get a ceriatone JTM 45 clone or other clones out there that are cheaper then reissue marshalls?

Re: JTM 45 reissue

What kind of budget do you have?? There are a lot of JTM45 clones out there that IMO are head and sholder above the reissue Marshall...it just depends on how close you want to get to a REAL JTM45 and how much cash you can spend...

Re: JTM 45 reissue

Well that's the thing, I'm kind of in a tough place with cash right now, I have some saved up but not quite enough.

The thing about a CeriaTone is after shipping plus ordering a head box and shipping for that it's going to cost me quite a bit, same with the Edana after shipping. And actually I would enjoy modding a reissue, it would give me more experience in this area. This way I could slowly mod it and in the meantime have the amp to play in stock form.

So basically I'm hoping to find a reissue maybe around the 700 dollar mark, locally so there's no shipping to pay for. That shouldn't be too low a price for these heads..

Re: JTM 45 reissue

I played a JTM-45 re-issue in GC .... granted you people never heard me play and perhaps I am one of those metal dudes that just sucks, but man that re-issue was pretty pathetic version of JTM-45s, when I think of JTM I think of this "scooped highs" super creem, super thick, super gloss, surper huge mids with bass that is sort of very big as well but is very dark, very moody in sort almost depressing way. That amp that I've played had basically crapload of bass, crap load of uncontrolled undefined mids, crappy highs, and aboslute 0 carachters. No, I am not one of those ass holes who cranks up in GC, I have this hobby in my playing, I am kinda faking Billy Gibbons style with riffs done in his style, so that what I've played not too loud in the store .....
