Just a thought

I currently am using an Epi LP Custom as my main guitar right now, fairly new (about 6 months old now), and it desperately needs a new nut. I've been looking at a bunch of bone nuts on ebay, would the gibson sized nuts on there fit my epi? i cant see why it wouldnt, but i dont know much about replacing the nuts whcih is why im asking. and im assuming that id be better off having a professional do it rather than myself? i have no experience with most tech work when it comes to guitars unfortunately :sigh: watd be the best way to go about it?

Re: Just a thought

Best bet is to take the guitar to a tech. Tell him you want a new nut cut out of such and such material. It might cost you $40, but it's the best way to do it.

Yes! A guitar "doc" can fit a customised nut for you.I fitted my own to two of my guitars. You essentially start with a full piece with no 'grooves" and make it to suit your guitar.

+1. I had a bone nut installed on a Epi V by the guy I use, what a difference. Plus he cut it so I could use a thick 6th string. .060.

Plastic Nuts are just that! "NUTS"They have the most awful resonance qualities.

I was lucky enough to obtain some "ivory" blanks ,before they became unavailable.[late 70,s]
I fitted one to my acoustic at the time .I had the other one stored away for years.[20+]
I eventually had it fitted to my Ephi LP.[2002/3]

I also had a bone one fitted to another guitar. It,s not quite as resonant as the ivory , but streets ahead of "plastic"

Re: Just a thought

even if you could buy a nut designed specifically for your guitar, it would still need to be properly shaped and notched. Buy a gibson style bone nut and take it to a tech if you cant do it yourself.

and by the way...the r tard at guitar center does not count as a tech

Haha yeah the first set up i had done was at GC and i told myself id never trust my guitar or money in that guy's hands again. I've had some work donewith a more local tech thats gaining my trust. I know that the nuts needs to be shaped and ill probly pick one up and throw the job on him, i dont trust myself with that kinda **** yet, i have much learning to do when it comes to that hah. Thanks for the help tho
