Just bought my first Joyo... Classic Chorus

What should I expect in terms of quality and bypass ?

It was 45 with tax on ebay and should be hear in the next 3 days.

I orginally wanted a phaser or univibe to be honest so I'm hoping this Classic Chorus can cop some univibe pulsating tones decently with some tweaking.

"What should I expect..." about a pedal you already bought? You need to quit hanging out on TGP. As for the actual pedal, I can't comment on it as I've not tried anything Joyo.

You're going to be disappointed then, chorus pedals sound little like a phaser and even less like a univibe. You should enjoy it for what it is - an 80's cheese machine.

Seriously though, I like the flanger on my Mobius but only when the mix is low enough to just give a nice widening effect to the tone. It works nicely for cleans.

Re: Just bought my first Joyo... Classic Chorus

It'd be nice to get just the slightest of detune and widening on it. best of luck, Deaf.

Re: Just bought my first Joyo... Classic Chorus

You'll have to tell US about it after it gets here.

I will say chorus is nice compromise IMO between phase and Vibe. However, the two knob factor concerns me for flexibility. I bet you'll get like two good sounds out of it. MAybe three.

1. Big slow deep clean chorus
2. slight faster distorted chorus
3. fake vibrato - max rate low depth

Still, all sounds I'd use.

Real slow/shallow isn't gonna be phase like really, but it will be something.

I've not had a problem with quality on either of my Joyo pedals. But I've not played that one.

Yeah I guess all I really need is some depth to my cleans sometimes... I for sure don't want the Police 80s chorus but something a little slower and deeper. For 40 bucks why not

Shouldn't be a problem then. You'll be fine.

Police (which I played A LOT of in the 80's) = Chorus + Comp + Delay

Just set the depth low, the rate appropriate and you'll be fine. Still - makes the assumption that level etc is good. I have an old Washburn chorus that is perfect. Others not so much. No adjustments here for anything other than speed/depth. That's a one trick pedal.
- I use a Digitech CF-7 Chorus Factory which could easily sound like whatever I want from almost flange, to vibrato
- An old Ibanez CF7 Chorus Flanger has multiple settings too

A Level, Delay, and /or tone knob really does a lot to make a chorus super flexible. But like you said - for forty bones, give it a shot. I have a $24 Behringer Phaser I love. I'd love a couple of Joyo boxes.

You might want to try an MXR phase 45 for the same thing.

Thanks! I'll fiddle with it and I'm sure I'll find some use for it.

It is funny you mention the Phase 45 there was a used one at my local store for 50 bucks so I might pick it up next time I'm there. I hear the phase 45 is 2 stage as well

Buy that Phase 45 and send it to me. I'll hold it for you if the Chorus doesn't work out...

Re: Just bought my first Joyo... Classic Chorus

I guess as long as you just use that & don't go looking at the insides of the Joyo then you'll be happy. They are a little varying in terms or quality control but meh it's cheap with metal body & if you're lucky it should work fine for long time. I have a EHX SEM which is a chorus + flange (parallel to eachother) in one pedal. Sounds kinda like this vid if used in stereo but mono it's meh sounding lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzN3UdGjEig

Ahh true. I have been looking up Joyo all morning. The reviews are pretty inconsistent, some love them and say the quality is equal to EHX and some say they came to them broken.

I had a big box EM long ago.. only really used it for the filter matrix. Really cool pedal

Re: Just bought my first Joyo... Classic Chorus

I have a number of JOYO pedals. Like you, I figured for $42 shipped, no great risk. I have the American Sound (57 Dlx sim.), British Sound (Marshall), Sweet Baby (mild OD), Deluxe Crunch (a sweeter sounding TS-9, and I like TS-9's), Tremelo, and Noise Gate.

I've had them less than a year, but so far so good quality/reliability-wise.
1) The Amer. has a bit of a hiss, so I tried a noise gate. The JOYO noise gate was worthless to me, so I use a Behringer NR ($25) which works great....no more hiss!
2) The Brit. is OK, but in all fairness, I'm not big on the Marshall sound.
3) The Sweet Baby is tremendous....love it!
4) The Deluxe Crunch is also great, even better sound-wise than a TS-9 for my taste.
5) The Tremelo is very good...not quite as good as the Boss, but very decent.
6) The Noise Gate, as mentioned, is IMO worthless. (the Behringer Noise Reduction is very effective)

All in all, I feel the JOYO's are great values except for the NG. They are claimed to be true by-pass, and I haven't noticed tone-suck.
HTH

Re: Just bought my first Joyo... Classic Chorus

The Joyos are significantly more interesting to me because of the neat little metal enclosure and neat looking knobs. If the effect sucks or is bad, it's an automatic donor for a DIY project. I'd like to find some broken ones and buy em to stick my fuzz pedals in.

Re: Just bought my first Joyo... Classic Chorus

never tried it, but if you just want some depth to your cleans I'd suggest an analog delay like a carbon copy or memory toy. Set the repeats up right before ooscillation, the mix low, and the tempo to taste, with the modulation on. I've seen the memory toy go as low as $40 used

cool I'll check out the Memory toy... I have actually never tried a EHX delay before.

I already have an analog delay set for a warm tape slapback for leads and I love how it thickens up the sound especially with dirt or fuzz pedals on. I also have a Boss Tera ehco which is like a modulated delay but a little more in your face with the modulated decay. My brother has a carbon copy though and I love how it sounds.

This small box digital version of that also has the filter matrix mode hidden in the rate knob but without an expression pedal I can't seem to find a way to use it to my advantage :(

I also have the Memory Boy. Ehx sorta forgot or skimped out on a tiny gain adj trim pot on the inside of this pedal. There is a place on the circuit board where it's supposed to be mounted but I'm not sure why they didn't add one. I was about to sell that pedal because of the annoying gain boost it gave when engaged, then I tried looking online for a fix & found a way to eliminate or control the added boost. I opted to eliminate the boost & so far it seems to work just fine for me, much better than before. This particular one I have also has an issue regarding the voltage it needs to operate correctly(around 10.5V). So far the factory supplied adapter doesn't put out the correct voltage. Lucky for me I made a battery pack using AA batteries & using that atleast I can get the delay to function at it's intended 500ms delay time.

I think if you are wanting to get a ehx delay then directly go for the Deluxe Memory Man; the toy, boy & deluxe boy don't sound like the big one. I tried that one out at the store, it sounds fantastic. If I could then I'd trade my memory boy for a carbon copy any day.

Wow are you always such a dick ?

I'm sorry, I didn't think I needed to put a smiley there to show my sarcasm. Mostly because 1) I see you on TGP a lot and 2) I thought you would have read the recent thread over there on how asking for opinions on pedals you already bought but hadn't received was a very TGP thing to do.

And that's a bad thing? :D

Don't own any Joyo's but I love my Moen Holy Choir chorus and (nothing against The Police/chorus-y cleans..not my thing though) this is pretty much how I use it...really gives things a mean, vicious edge..

The OP could check out the Moen Shaky Jimi vibe...lots of good stuff said about it.

These things (Moen Pedals) are built like Tanks. Much bigger/heavier/tougher than the other chinese brands (Not that I've had a problem with any of mine holding up tbh..) and they all sound incredibly classy/awesome..
