Just bought myself an Agile AL-3010 2TS Flame Top

Just bought it off of rondo music, and should be in within the next two weeks:approve:
It has everything thing I want in a guitar based on the specs: ebony fretboard, jumbo frets, mahogany body, GraphTech bridge, and just all around sexy for just 400 bucks.

Hopefully, it'll be a good backup guitar for my Carvin CT6
Sold my red fender mexican strat to get the money for it (never liked the guitar, anyway), and I'm most likely going to pop in a 59 and CC that I have laying around. Anywho, pics coming soon

Good choice. I have an AL3100 that I like a lot. It has a set of Ants in it. Sounds great.

CC's are overwound (14K) and are often too dark in LP's, because of the warm A2 magnet. But that same PU with a bright A5 mag becomes the 'Custom 5', and with a ceramic becomes the 'Custom.'

On this forum, the most popular of the Custom family has become the C8 (Custom 8), which is again the same PU, but with an A8 magnet. High output, warm but with a dose of treble, ample mids, and a tight low end. Cuts thru a mix nicely. Great in many woods and for many styles of music.

'59N's are a popular neck PU here; in LP's can can sometimes be a little bassy, but if that happens, that's easily fixed by raising the pole pieces and lowering the bass side of the PU.

And, I always love to see someone sell a Strat and get an LP! :friday:

Thanks, everyone. Blue man, I have the same worry with the Cc and the 59. I originally had those exact issues with the Cc and 59 in my carvin, which is why I switched out the pickups: I'll see what happens , but if the cc doesn't work out I'll probably just swap the A2 for a ceramic and trade the 59 for something else.

Re: Just bought myself an Agile AL-3010 2TS Flame Top

I've never had a 59 neck in a LP, but Blueman's advice has been given by more than one person over the years, and iirc, swapping in an A4 has been a huge fix for a 59 in a LP as well. I have the CC in an extremely bright LP, and the pickups rules, which means it probably will not work for you in your Agile (of which I have two and love). I'd do what Blueman says and put in an A8 and then a UOA5 if the A8 doesn't meet your tone requirements.

Good luck with the guitar. I believe that you will love it.

I think the 59 and CC are great choices. My agile 3100 is very bright and the custom, although an amazing pickup, was just too icepick for this guitar. The Custom UOA5 is what I ended up with and it is near perfection. If you find yourself wanting some more balls and treble from the CC, go with UOA5. Jumping right to the ceramic might be too drastic.

Mine ( Agile 3100 ) is both Bright AND Thin sounding, and frankly, didnt have a lot of character. IMO, theres no way a PAF could sound good in these guitars, unless you play under distortion. If your trying to get reasonably loud cleans, your going to have to do something with these pickups- something drastic. I did, and its now a pretty good guitar, although a Les Paul Gibson just blows its doors still even after the swap, and I'm not even a big fan of late model Pauls.

Feeling some hate there, MetalManiac. What was the "drastic" thing you did to the guitar?

Re: Just bought myself an Agile AL-3010 2TS Flame Top

^ Threw some Hoodoo Jibe on it. had to go to new Orleans and get a witch Doctor. :)
No, I shouldn't really say anything...and I have a habit of sticking my nose where it doesn't belong, and i really shouldn't ,so Its just my guitar , and I'm not an expert... so you might have entirely different ideas about it.

I ended up putting a really heavy mid and bass eq'd pickup in with rolled back highs. Not much good for cleans, but fattened the thing up well, and took the edge off the treble bite, but thats just my experience. Probably a lot depends on amp and style of playing.
I would say a PAF type pickup in the neck sounds good in an Agile Les Paul guitar, and thats what I have in it.

Much appreciated, Mr.MetalManiac. I know not to have too high of expectations - and I realize that it will not sound as good a 1,500 buck Les Paul - but I need a backup and this is what I can afford (also, anything sounds better than the ****ty strat I had before this.) I'll see what the guitar sounds like, and go from there.

Re: Just bought myself an Agile AL-3010 2TS Flame Top

Congrats man!! I think you will enjoy it, I picked up my first Agile yesterday, and I really like it!

Re: Just bought myself an Agile AL-3010 2TS Flame Top

So, just got the guitar. Where do I start? The pickguard is really scrathed and the 3 way toggle switch is actually pushed into the guitar - therefor I can't chose which pickup I'm using. On top of that, the action is so low that it's unplayable. Not a good start.
Outside of that, it's quite pretty looking. I'll give you all a report after my buddy fixes up the guitar, swaps out the new pickups, and sets it up for 11 guage strings.

Thats wierd buddy. Most reports have them arriving in great shape right out of the box. I guess were seeing a change in the quality control there?
Anyhow, I live around San Antonio, and I have two Agiles Les pauls . Im trying to sell one on Craigslist San Antonio. If you want to see and play it, I'll show you what I did with mine, and how I set it up to play totally low and fast, and put the aftermarket pickups in to make it a bit less icepicky and to have more girth in tone..
