I was about 95% thrilled with this pedal upon it's stock completion...I did some changes to it and man does this pedal rock! Has this great "Plexi" meets a JCM800 tone with the warmer low mids of a BF Fender...I added an extra "contour pot" that really lets me dial in the mids and low mids together..I can roll the "contour" pot all the way CW and do a perfect "La Grange" tone with a little bit of lows and cutting mids,but then roll the pot fully CCW and get this ballsy "Dual Rec" kind of tone that is strong in the lows and low mids but not boxey like a Dual Rec....This pedal came out wonderful and it looks like it might replace my Marshall Jackhammer that I've used since it came out,or I'll use em both? If you are into building your own pedals or are thinking of doing so,this is a great distortion pedal...One of the finest Marshall type sounding pedals I've played through... :dance:

I find I Like the drive settings at around 10 to 11 o'clock so I can still keep great note articulation..If you roll your guitar volume back,the drive cleans up pretty nicely depending on whether you're using sc or humbuckers...I prefer this pedal with single coils so far until I get to really know it..

Buy your pcb from JD and your parts from Steve at SmallBear....This sound sample(not mine) is ok,but it doesn't do the pedal any justice really until you get it into a great amp...My camera needs a battery or I'd have posted some pictures of this awesome sounding pedal!

Next I'm going to build myself a compressor,since I don't have 1.. :)

Thanks brother,that was really nice!

The pedal is very cool in it's stock fashion,but my ears told me that I could bring it to a much higher level..Some simple but very effective mods took care of all I wanted from the pedal...Probably one of the best Marshall in a box type pedals I've ever heard and I put the silly thing together myself! :smack: :laugh2:

You want to borrow my DBX163x? Its not a pedal, but its one of the finest compressor/limiters, in my book. They can be found on eBay and in pawn shops for as little as $50. Even has a hi-Z guitar input on the front, and plugs directly into the wall.

We were going to trade a couple things back and forth anyway. Let me know.
Its yours if you want it. (For awhile.) ;)

This sure sounds tempting! Congrats on a new pedal! Maybe one day I'll start on this too, I'm quite interested.

Not $15 if you have to buy all the parts..I do pedal mods and so I had 90% of the stuff needed to build the pedal....Not sure how much to build the pedal with none of the parts? The pots and the box are the pricey stuff...The rest is pretty inexpensive.JD's site has a written page of where to get the parts and Mouser part numbers...It was well worth my time building this pedal.It sounds absolutely fantastic!

Thanks Artie....I've never actually used a compressor for any great length of time...Since I've built 3 pedals now,I thought it would be cool to make the next one a compressor,simply cause I don't own one...I was going to build one(cause I can)....LOL :laugh2: Thanks for asking if I'd like to borrow yours buddy,but it isn't necessary... :dance:

By parts you mean casing and soldering accessories? So about $15 for all the electronics?

No I guess you aren't understanding my post? LOL....The case alone will cost you close to $15...

More like around $30 to $40 just in parts(Or more)....The expensive items are the board,pots,and the case... :smack:

You can buy the assembled pedal on JD's website for $139 if you didn't want to build it yourself....I'm not sure I could make any sought of profit building these and seling them and beat JD's price on the pedal..Since the pedal isn't my idea,I see myself building a few for some friends only....But that's a big maybe? :) It was pretty time consuming for me and I've got alot of experience doing mods etc.around many pedals.. :32:

Ohh sorry... You said the pots and case are the expensive bits so I thought it was what you already had.
It seems like a good idea. My first try probably will be an MXR microamp copy. I hear it's not too hard :)

Exactly...Start small and then work up to the more advanced projects...Also build what you would use...

Did my 1st Gig w/t my HRDx and BSIAB 2 last night. Both sounded GREAT!!
If you need your Fender amp to sound like a Cranked Marshall... The BSIAB 2
does the job. I was only able to use it on a few songs Because this was
a Blues gig. With a Strat and the volume knob rolled back I was able to get
a good blues tone,But with my Flying V it was Crunch city ! I was getting
some serious Rock tone (remember this was a Blues gig :13: ) The bass
player was marveling that my 1x12 combo was starting to sound like a
1/2 stack. :32: But I think he was trying to tell me (In a nice way :) )
TURN THAT S**T DOWN! :laugh2: (The HRDx was only on 3) I'll have to
wait for a Rock gig to see what this Lil' monster can do. SD97 (John)
gave me a heads up on one of his Mods for the BSIAB 2. I'll see if I
can post some before and after clips ? The real sleeper of the night
was the Daddy-o I did some Mad Science mods to. It made the HRDx
sound like a BF Fender being driv'in to the brink (Ala SRV) I'll try to get
some clips up. Let your ears be the judge?

That is a kick @ss sounding pedal. One of my favs out there. Ed sure did a wonderful job designing that one.

I built the IC Buffer the other night. You're right, it's very transparent. Now it just needs to be boxed up.

It's nice to see I'm not the only DIYer on this forum. :D

The mods are boring but building the pedal from scratch is fun and rewarding...I think the BSIAB is alot better after my own ideas and tweaks were added to it...Great pedal.
