Just got a Duncan Designed HB-112 (Screamin' Demon meets JB meets Duncan Distortion?)

Just picked up a brand new Duncan Designed HB112 model to try out!

Duncan touts it as a Screamin' Demon with "more bite and more screams"! Interestingly enough, upon first look, it has the single row of hex screws just like the Screamin' Demon, but it measures in at 16.8K and has a Ceramic mag!

Starting to wonder if this pickup is more like a Duncan Designed version of the JB/Distortion with a single row of hex screws in place of slug poles and a regular-size Ceramic mag, as many forum members have used to create a "Distortion Lite" or "JB+" version, as they are sometimes called.

I can't wait to see what kind of articulation and punch this pickup packs! Looks like an excellent candidate for some good 'ol mag-swapping, too!

A few years back There was ibanez that had that pu stock, it was a SZ420(small ceramic 17K)
here is the pu's in that guitar they have a Duncan/ibanez logo, neck pu is a DD101 59 model

Wow, never saw that one!

Sounds cool. I have wondered about that, since I have a Demon in my guitar now. ;) Maybe someone from SD will elucidate on the HB112. ;)

Re: Just got a Duncan Designed HB-112 (Screamin' Demon meets JB meets Duncan Distorti

yeah you will love that duncan designed model, it was their best IMO:)
a tighter more aggressive JB/DD hybrid

Better than the HB-108 with an A8?

Buy one and compare for yourself...they're cheap! PM me and I'll send you the link.

You can always throw your A8 mag in it if the stock Ceramic doesn't float your boat!

Just ordered one. Yeah, pickups under $40 are pretty much no-brainers for me to try. ;)

I hated the Screamin' Demon, but I think if it was stronger I would have liked it. (Like around 12-13k.) I'll compare this one to the custom Duncan Designed I made out of two HB-103b screw coils with hex heads and a ceramic.

Re: Just got a Duncan Designed HB-112 (Screamin' Demon meets JB meets Duncan Distorti

Wow, that's some tone tinkering!

Yeah, the original reason I stopped using the Screamin' Demon was that I wanted a little more output from it. I had the Custom Shop wind me up something that was based on the original "Diablo" (not the twin-blade "El Diablo") and it was in that resistance range and looked like a Demon, but I had to sell it before I ever got to try it :(

Let me know what you think of the HB-112 when you get it!

Where did you find this? I need to buy one.

Re: Just got a Duncan Designed HB-112 (Screamin' Demon meets JB meets Duncan Distorti

that photo in post2 is making me wonder what size those hex screws are...
EDIT-the listing pic finally loaded; regular demon size there

so this is like a double-screw duncan distortion?

sure it can be if you mod it that way with the larger ceramic and 6 more screws, essentially these are wound to JB or DD spec and it is up to you to mod as you see fit.

Re: Just got a Duncan Designed HB-112 (Screamin' Demon meets JB meets Duncan Distorti

Any update on the sound of these pickups?

Re: Just got a Duncan Designed HB-112 (Screamin' Demon meets JB meets Duncan Distorti

I have an Ibanez SZ520. When I bought it I instantly ripped the stock pickups out, they are Duncan Designed HB103, and put in a Seymour Duncan Custom in the bridge-I had it like that for 3 years. 6 months ago out of curiousity I put the stock pickups back in. I kid you not the Duncan Designed sounds better than the Seymour Duncans on this guitar. The Duncan Designed has a mix of flat head screws and hex-sounds incredible.
