Just Got a PODxt

Pink Unicorn Horsey

I bought a PODxt last night on the way home from the office. Haven't had much opportunity to tinker with it -- mostly read through the user's manual and updated all the firmware.

Any factory presets or personal tones that all you POD owners happen to find working well for you?

Re: Just Got a PODxt

I love the JCM800 and Citrus models. Other than an occasional use of the Bassman model, I never use anything else. The JCM800 sounds great with the V30 4x12 cab. I keep the gain around half and have a Tubescreamer set to my Stomp button for more gain and that midrange boost. The factory presets, except maybe "Run Like Hell" aren't really any good. Like with any amp, I found I had the best luck setting everything to 12 o clock and adjusting to taste.

YOU! Proceed to the service desk IMMEDIATELY and turn in your MAN card!

(Besides, didn't you read the first page????)

Factory presets are mediocre to :earl:

I use about 10 user preset channels. The "Eruption" patch can be modded to something useable.

But I prefer the Vox, Boogie, and Tweed amp patches. I also have a Soldano patch, and I use the "Run Like Hell" preset as a "clean" channel sometimes.

I like the Tubescreamer effect, but I am more partial to the Tube Driver. On most presets, I use phaser or flanger effects as needed. The digi-delays are good as well.

If you tweak enough, you can find lots of useful patches.

Oh, yes, the "Cold Shot" patch is fairly authentic as well.

Yeah, I know. It's like pulling over to ask for directions.

Most excellent. I'll have to check those out. I've heard some good things here and there about the clean channels.

Re: Just Got a PODxt

i've been looking at the XT for sometime now... i only own the old 2.0...

I'd prefer the rack space one.... but why the hell is it so much more expensive....? The XT Live looks good too....

Re: Just Got a PODxt

Keith that is probably the most stupid thing I have ever seen you do man!

You're just jealous, Greg! ;)

Actually, some of these tones will go nicely for direct recording w/o a mic. And remember, I've got a baby on the way in a couple months, so I won't be able to crank those tube amps all the time the way I like to. :)

Dude, you sold your CELTIC!

Have you ever found "your" tone that lasted more than a week?:chairfall Wait 'til ya got a family. The resonance of your living room will be a moot point.:lmao:

I like the POD. It is a TOOL. Is it the only tool I'll use? Of course not. But it sure is good at what it does.

Now, gimme your chops so I can put them to use with my Franklin AND my POD.;)

(Of course, they'll probably beg to return home after a few minutes).

Re: Just Got a PODxt

HAHAHAHA

Yeah, the POD is a nice tool to have handy. It ain't no Celtic, Vox, Fender or Mesa, but it's good at some things and lets me play at 2:00 in the morning without getting a shoe hurled at my head.

Admittedly, it's also a fun little toy for trying to cop some other artists' sounds.

Re: Just Got a PODxt

Something I just realized:

Instead of bringing 2 1x12 combos to school to fit into my single room (RA, hence the single room). I should bring my tube amp combo and get a PODxt and some sort of studio monitor to put on my desk with the PODxt, or be able to put the PODxt into the Drawer of my desk...

Re: Just Got a PODxt

I picked mine up about a year and a half ago and I'm wll tweaking and learning things about it.

There are only a few amp models that I rely on though. The Soldano SLO-100 and the Marshall Plexi's make it worth the price of admission alone though.

:nana: Dude... who cares that I sold my Celtic! Also I have been a BF Fender guy for years. I just strayed once in my youth and as you see I came back around!

PODs may very well be nice for recording, but I stand by MY OPINION when I say that I have never had any luck with them myself. I KNOW it's just a personal thing. I can't even get inspired to use one at 2 in the AM. I can't help it I am a full fledged member of the Tube Snob club. I still love you guys!! :beerchug:

of course my original comment to Keith was just a little poking at a good forum bro! Heck... I'd give ANYTHING not to have to lug the crap that I have to lug to gigs, but to get the real tone I just have to!!!

Agreed. There is no replacing a tube amp, heavy and clunky as it may be!

Re: Just Got a PODxt

the jcm800 and the tweed models sounds really good.

Re: Just Got a PODxt

Hey KG; Once you get a feel for this thing, lets do a "clip" shootout. My Johnson against your POD. ;)
