Just Got Air Zone/Air Norton Set Installed!

Re: Just Got Air Zone/Air Norton Set Installed!

I have an air zone ordered for my ash bodied maple neck/ fretboard american strat. I was origanally thinking of getting a FRED but the tech guy at dimarzio said he thought it would be too bright for my guitar so i ordered the air zone on his recomendation. Thing is i have never used a humbucker that fat but the EQ specs intrigue me. I think i will either love it or hate it. I needed a bridge humbucker that was low output to match the class of 55s, and i just did not see a duncan that was what i really wanted even though i think seymour makes some sweet pups. As for the stock pups in my strat i absolutley HATE them. The bridge bucker is just lackluter sounding to me, and the tex-mex single coils are to warm for what i was wanting out of single coils. Do you think the air zone will rock in my strat?????? If i don't like it i will try the FRED GOD BLESS!!!!

The AN is a very neat neck pickup. Very deep sounding. Like the AZ, very thick and controllable. However, I'm still trying to "open" it up a little more.

make the screw coil a regular strength coil
you do this by taking a piece of guitar string(.32 A string from a 9-42 pack)
and place it in the gap between the magnets side and the screw poles:beerchug:

:wrf: How about just removing the plastic spacer that is already in the pickup if you want it to be a normal?

Didn't know that. I don't do surgery on pups, I just know how they sound. I was told by a number of people who are techs that they used a plastic spacer (which was discussed at length here a couple of years ago) or a thin piece of cardboard. BUT you raised my curiousity and I opened up an Air Norton and it has 4 plastic spacers on the corners of the magnet. Go to this site to see the photo I took (please forgive my crappy camera but you can still see the spacers in the photo).

I'm curious as to the "air gaps" that were described by Wicked. Are you talking about the spaced between the extended screws in the bobbon?? Anyway, please note that the plastic spacers are on the corners of the magnet (all 4) hence the term airbucker, the space between the magnet and the slugs/screws is increased creating a weaker field.

Ok, I'm trying this again as I seem to have a problem with the photo upload. Try the link above and see if it works.
