Just heard a 15 lb amp sound like I need to own it. Quilter Amps anyone?

Auditioned the little MicroPro 200. 8" speaker with two channels, each with its own 100 watt amp. I would not have believed it had I not heard the darn thing.

I then tried the Aviator series.... I loved it. 12" Cel. Spk. and WOW. Folks, this is a solid state amp that will give tube amps one hell of a run for the money. I own a Mesa Express with the 12". I dare say, I want a Aviator, the open 12 to be exact. I want it, I want it...........dear, are you reading this........I WANT IT!

I've seen his advertisements in Guitar Player. That's the only thing I know about them.

you could get a laney cub 12 combo and put a neodymium speaker in it and it would weigh 20 pounds. thats what I wanna do when I save up. tube tone is where it is at for me :) my pedals like fuzz pedals would sound HORRIBLE thru solid state.

Ditto that. I've definitely been curious about these amps as well.

In regards to tube vs. SS... I've owned a lot of nice tube amps and still prefer them. Having said that... I was playing around with switching between my 1980s Marshall Lead 12 SS combo and my Marshall 2203X tube head (both running into their own 4X12s loaded in an "X" pattern of V30s and T75s) last night and it's amazing that even an old 80s-designed and built "practice" amp can get 90% of the way there in terms of tone. Yes, the 2203 is much more amp than the Lead12 and I can do things with it that I can't do with the little combo... but seriously... for the needs of most players looking for that Marshall tone (and not gigging), that little Lead 12 is still an amazing little amp (when run through the right cab).

So I have NO doubt that the Quilter amps are rockin amps and look forward to when I can find one locally to plug into.

Thanks for the info! I'll have to check Quilter amps out if I run across one in a shop. Ditto the comments on seeing the ads but never having heard about them elsewhere.

BTW a recent Quilter ad listed Allan Holdsworth as a user. He's known to try more cutting edge gear that may depart from the vintage gear we're used to in some ways, but he obviously knows great guitar tone.
