Just Highest Output Passive Humbucker On The Market

Just wondering...what is the highest output/ highest gain PASSIVE humbucker out on the market? Is it the Dimarzio X2N?

Re: Just Highest Output Passive Humbucker On The Market

I´d say the Invader... I never found the X2N or X2N-B to be as scorching as everyone always raves about, but YMMV....

Re: Just Highest Output Passive Humbucker On The Market

Is the BareKnuckle War Pig passive? If so, it takes the cake!

Re: Just Highest Output Passive Humbucker On The Market

I've never tried the Invader but the X2N is by far the highest output one that I've tried.

It's actually a great sounding pickup that's well balanced...it's just too much output for me.

Re: Just Highest Output Passive Humbucker On The Market

Stick a bridge Hot Rails in the neck position and you'll get the loudest passive you can imagine:-)

Re: Just Highest Output Passive Humbucker On The Market

Bare Knuckles Miracle Man or Warpigs are the biggest I've seen. Miracle Man's a 17.5k Ceramic. The Warpigs a 22k Alnico V.

:smash:

Re: Just Highest Output Passive Humbucker On The Market

I find the Invader quite balanced, I've tried in my SG, the Delonge Strat, and a mahogany Tele and it sounds great in all of them.
It's pretty full most of the time, which makes it seem "fat" compared to most pickups, but as long as you don't expect it to sound bright and cutting like a JB, than it's a full-bodied p'up that's excellent and high output.
It sounded best in the mahogany Tele, though, so maybe there's something about the Invader, mahogany, and the Fender scale length that really works well.

But alas, High DC resistance alone doth not a Screamer make, the magnet plays a very important role as well (that´s why the Gibson Dirty Fingers and Invader both have 3 ceramic magnets ;))

We essentially need someone who has demoed the Motherbucker, Miracle Man, Warpig, Invader, X2N and X2N-B in the exact same guitar...

Re: Just Highest Output Passive Humbucker On The Market

Anyone tried the Lace Drop 'n Gains?
I've heard they're hot, though I personally have never tried 'em.

If anybody would donate the pickups I would be happy to offer my services :D.

That, and probably the Invader's huge pole pieces (and the fact that they don't protrude from the bottom of the baseplate) give you a wide but concentrated magnetic field that scoops up huge amounts of bass and low mids that may very well allow it to trump even the War Pig in output.

But I've never tried a War Pig so take that with a grain of salt.

Re: Just Highest Output Passive Humbucker On The Market

The hottest I've tried (even compared to an 81) is the JB/DD coils combined with a huge magnet taken from a Yamaha humbucker out of an old AES500.

The coils measure 16.8k and the mag is over 1/4" thick.

I want to see somebody commandeer some hard drive magnets and stick those suckers in a pickup, they're way stronger than ordinary magnets. (I'm talking nickel-sized magnets impossible to pull off). yeah HDD magnets own all \m/

The pull on the strings would be so crazy. You'd try to play an E and it'd come out an F# :laugh2:

I'll be trying them in a month, so I'll see. Apparently they're medium-hot... not super high output, but with great response.

Actually, I´ve been considering picking up a fey NeoDyms for a while now, as the idea has come up a few times but the general consensus is that it´s a totally sick thing to do....

And, like the Mythbusters, I generally enjoy doing totally sick things :laugh2:

I'd be interested in hearing if you actually tried this. You could go out and play a show and small coinage and earrings would be flying at your guitar from the audience... not really but it'd be funny.

Re: Just Highest Output Passive Humbucker On The Market

The hottest I've tried is the Parallel Axis Distortion. 21.3k, but as Zerb said, that's not the only factor. It slays MOST of my other pickups.
